Changes required for the Indian odi side

Yuvraj gets leser overs and has to take more risk though he has alo been guilty at times.
That is not an excuse. He bats at positions, from where some batsmen get close to 100 runs. In Dhaka, he batted at Number 3 and scored just one run, while a Nondescript Number Nine (who is a bowler first) got 30 runs in 20 balls. His batting average is less than 30 this year. However, if he can build on good, solid starts made by the batsmen above him and score lots of runs quickly, he can be a long-term prospect and a more or less permanent choice.

I found it totally obnoxious as to how he was allowed to bat higher up the order when specialist openers alo wanted to have a go at getting noticed by the selectors
Chopra was injured. They only opened with Jadhav and Gambhir. Sriram now bats in the middle order, and that's better for him. Dhoni batted at four in most of the matches.

arthik has a decent FC average which shows he can bat. Horrible OD average of 8 though. Played very less matches too. I am unaware how defensive or agressive a player he is but his batting can be improved pon. No one thought Pathan would even have the potential to develop into an allrounder. He does have the potential. Karthi's keeping has been good which is saying a lot after seeing the crap keepers playing for India over the last decade. A better batting would make him a keeper India needs. If India needs an average keeper and good batsman combination, might as well stick with Dravid keeping.

They need a second line of pace bowlers ready- the best choice would be Gagandeep, Bhandari (especially), RP Singh, Salvi (if fit), JP Yadav (despite lack of pace), Joginder (with a change in action) and Vikram Singh.

So that would mean not givin the middle order batsmen adequate chances. Dhoni should have batted much lower and was favoured to make uns and get into the side because his potential was assumed very early. This is how I see it. Certainly more so after seeing he isnt a quality keeper as well.

He takes his time to build an innings. If you had seen the last NatWaste Challenge match, he scored just 1 run in more than 6 deliveries- a little too much time. Then again, he had made 80 in more than a run a ball- that's what he must do more often.

I'd have

1) Ghambir -
2) Sehwag
3) Tendulkar - if he's gonna play with a SR of 74 have him come in at 3 and play til the end of the innings, needed for experience - vice captaincy
4) Dravid (c) - if he's playing
5) Yuvraj - acts in the same mould as Ricardo Powell and bashes the leather of the ball in the last 5-10 overs
6) D. Kaarthick (wk) - if he works on his batting and r
7) R. Powar - only seen him once? young has promise
8) Z.Khan/another newer bowler
9) Pathan
10) Bhajji - hasexperience and fire and a good ODI bowler
11) Balaji

If you know anything about Tendulkar is - his personal life goal is to win the world cup for India. We know how disappointed he was last time, even while receiving the Man of the Series trophy.

One thing I am sure, if perhaps, Ganguly doesn't pick up form and gets dropped, then the only guy who will rise to challenge of leading the team then could be Tendulkar or Dravid. Tendulkar, given that he has expressed openly that he doesn't want to captain India again, looks like Dravid would end being captain.

So, after looking at the discussion one common theme has been - Either Ganguly or Laxman or both would need to take charge, play responsible innings, to their potential, or should give way for other players.

The perfect composition, as I mentioned before for the team would be
5 specialist batsman, 1 all rounder, 1 wicket keeper batsman, 4 specialist bowlers

For the batsman then, likely players to stick till next world cup -
1) Sehwag and 2) Tendulkar (opening, we all know how destructive these two can be, ask Pakistan from last world cup, particularly Waqar, and Akhtar)
3) Kaif (dependable)
4) Yuvraj (poor in technique, but a hitter and timer and suited for ODI)
5) Dravid (dependable)
That makes my 5 batsman, why would I need a Ganguly or Laxman or Mongia then?
6) I would rather pick an all rounder (can bat and bowl)
7) Wicket keeper (Kartik or Dhoni, whoever picks form in the next 2 years)
8) Pathan
9) Harbhajan
10) Kumble (if he stays fit and in form)
11) Pace bowler (some one who could good company to Pathan, possibly a fast bowler)

LOTS and lots and lots.
Same way we've had about 50 on the Asia-ROW game.
It just happens like that, sadly.

Interesting....he's the man in form. Have you been following the Ranji ODI's? Jadeja scored a hundred in almost a run a ball, with more than a few fours and sixes.

And has been a quality number 5/6 and shouldnt suffer more than he has already considering how Gibbs' career went post 1999 and deserves one more chance atleast.

I have been following Ranji only this time because of Jadeja...but playing Ranji or not...scoring centuries or not...the Indian team owes a place to Jadeja

IF the indifferent form of Ganguly, Dinesh Mongia, Laxman and Yuvraj is anything to go by, the sooner Jadeja is rushed back, the better.

Agree with that, except for the inclusion of Dinesh Mongia there. He shouldnt even be considered anymore.
