a lot of players play that shot..
I remember in the last world cup Ponting charged Chiminda Vass and hit him for two sixes in a row.. Kick Night used to do it a lot Hayden does it a lot only he walks down the crease not dances.
They all play it in different ways, though.
Hayden just swings because he's got such a heavy bat, Knight tends to either flick or slap, Ganguly tends to just use the basic Hoick.

What about the shovel shot McCullum plays. Is that a yet to be named shot?
It's an improper shot, simple as.
Improper shots don't need names, they're just improvisations.
I think the shovel/flick/hoik deserves a name. It's been played by many...Marillier, Lehmann, Campbell, Tushar Imran, McCullum. It's a well known run scorer, it deserves a name
But it's not a proper shot all the same..
you wont see a batsman play it EVER unless quick runs are needed.
it does infact have a name, it is called the scoop shot

To answer your question, yes

METEORIC RISE ?
No, it's just been dubbed that by those seeking to avoid the fact that it's pure improvisation used only when scoring runs as quickly as possible is all that matters.
The Hoick is a proper name - it's just a front-foot pull, really.Originally Posted by James90

Silly to call it an improper shot Richard!
Its a genuine cricket shot played best by Navjot Sidhu among the players I have seen. If ou have the confidence against the spinners to play the shot, and not so risky, then its very proper.
Sidhu and Ganguly alike havent got out much playing the shot. The implementations by most players of the shot are wrong which is why it seems improper. If you saw 20 players play the hook shot wrong and get out caught, you wouldnt call it improper.
It doesn't matter whether people play it with accomplishment - it is not an authentic shot, therefore it for a name it merely deserves "piece of improvisation".
