So Tendulkar didn't deserve his double ton but Ponting did?
they both deserved the ton that they scored against the attack that they got. however ponting scored those runs against what was pretty much india's first string bowlers however rubbish they are while tendulkar scored it against australia's 2nd string bowlers. and i dont think's id be too wrong in saying that the conditions that tendulkar scored his runs on were far flatter than the ones that ponting scored his on.

India chose Zaheer, Australia chose Gillespie. Pathan and Balaji were available for India, Bracken was available for India. Not to mention Gillespie actually finished the game, unlike Zaheer.
and because he played it makes him match fit does it?

Let's not forget a 'half fit' Gillespie is still more valuable than a broken down Zaheer.
yes he is, but he isnt as valuable as he is when hes fully fit, which is why the attack that india faced wasnt as special.

Well IIRR they were both dropped pretty early on so really neither of them played anywhere near as well as assumed.
If you're talking about the Ponting double-ton I'm thinking of, anyway.
