Zimbabwe have announced their squad for their tour of Bangladesh, with the only real suprise being Terrence Duffin, an opening batsmen. He only averages around 25 in FC cricket and List A cricket in Zimbabwe.

Minor suprises include the selections of Alex Cremer, Barney Rogers and Hamilton Masakadza, and the mssing faces of Blessing Mahwire, Vusi Sibanda, Gavin Ewing and Alester Maregwede, as well as the continual selection of Mluleki Nkala, who seems to be picked as a specialist number 9 batsman.

Zimbabwe squad Dion Ebrahim, Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor, Barney Rogers, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Mark Vermeulen, Tatenda Taibu (capt/wk), Elton Chigumbura, Tinashe Panyangara, Edward Rainsford, Douglas Hondo, Christopher Mpofu, Mluleki Nkala, Graeme Cremer, Prosper Utseya, Terrence Duffin.

Squad: Brendan Taylor, Terrence Duffin, Dion Ebrahim, Mark Vermeulen, Tatenda Taibu(c/wk), Stuart Matsikenyeri, Hamilton Masakadza, Barney Rogers, Elton Chigumbura, Prosper Utseya, Mluleki Nkala, Tinashe Panyangara, Graeme Cremer, Edward Rainsford, Douglas Hondo, Chris Mpofu.

Predicted Lineup for the First Test:

Brendan Taylor
Dion Ebrahim
Hamilton Masakadza
Mark Vermeulen
Tatenda Taibu
Stuart Matsikenyeri
Elton Chigumbura
Prosper Utseya
Tinashe Panyangara
Edward Rainsford
Douglas Hondo

This must be Bangladesh's first real chance of scoring their first Test and Series victory, IMO !! :D :D

I dont see Camel56 listed there.
i hope you're not that stupid mate,
number 1 im not from zimbabwe and number 2 im no plodder when it comes to the game of cricket. I carve up when i bat and i keep it tight when i bowl. Great all-rounder really.

Why has Ewing been dropped? Why is Nkala still there? Mahwire is better than him. This is a typically weak squad but it could have been stronger with Ewing and Mahwire. Terrence Duffin is a surprise I have to say, but he won't get a look-in with Ham Masakadza there, who has real class- youngest player to score a test century on debut, and a key ally of Andy Flower's with an 80 when Flower got 199* against South Africa. He might take to Bangladesh's bowlers like he took to the Windies on debut. He'll open with Ebrahim, Taylor might be dropped which he doesn't deserve but that's Zimbabwe for you.

If you guys want to find out about some of those guys try Zim cricinfo. They have a big, extensive biography section but they stopped updating that ages ago- got Taibu, Maregwede, Mahwire, Ewing and others who were around in 2002 though.

Thats all 100% right, although I think Masakadza will bat 3, where he did when he scored his 100.

Finally someone who knows something about these Zim cricketers... its so much more refreshing to see that post than the normal "They suck", "Who cares", "They shouldnt be touring" rubbish that people drone on about in every Zim tour.

I think we need a thread without all that.

Thaks Chubb.

Ide assume that Strang isnt available, but even if he was, they wouldnt pick him.

Although I think Strydom was available.

But really, Mahwire and Ewing should be there.

Ewing definately, he seems to get snubbed quite often by the selectors, even pre-rebel days.

Bryan Strang was looking to return from injury but in march the ZCU banned him from competing in the Logan Cup becase of comments he made about them, alleging racism and racist abuse from a ZCU official during a colts game, when Strang had selcted a white player instead of a "New Taibu". Greg Strydom is good, against Zimbabwe first-class bowling, but has never been tested agianst international bowlers. The main reason for hs non-selection however is probably his poor disciplinary record. The ZC are cracking down on ill-discipline, one selector says they might confiscate the player's cars "To remove their access to pleasure"

Thats correct, although he did play two games for Mashonaland in the Faithwear Cup this season.

Although that is set to end, with Mashonaland looking to boycott the both the Faithwear and Logan Cups.
