Is Wright getting Stagnant?

Choora

The question is, does Wright have a control over the senior players? Some observers of the Indian team think he never was fully in control. Said a former cricketer who worked with the Indian team for a very brief period, "Wright's policy has always been to leave the seniors alone and make the juniors do the hard yards. Has Ganguly's fielding or his fitness improved after Wright took over? No. Does he advice Sachin (Tendulkar) when he is obviously having technical problems? No."

Interesting article. What do you guys think? Is there a need for change?

Sanz is exactly right regarding Joshi.

I'm happy with Wright, and I don't think anyone needs to Tendulkar when he has a technical problem. He knows it, and he tried fixing it in Australia when every time he went to cover drive he nicked it.

I'm 100% behind Wright.

Wright has done a good job so far. just a couple of series, where the batting didn't click at all isn't any reason to show him the door.
On another note, is it just me or is the standard of sport writing really that atrocious.Sh&%s like Harish Dugh, Tapan Joshi write utter trash.

John Wright is coaching just six players out of 14. That is not the way to do the job. Spinners overstepping, pacers bowling boundary balls regularly, and many wides, bad fielding and awful running between wickets, even weaknesses of batsmen against spinners far from the quality of Murali and Warne, not to mention lack of balance in the side, all indicate that specialist batting coach John Wright is not quite doing his job. For three years. The Indian team needs a new coach, foreign or Indian, but an all-rounder.

Kapil Dev was an all rounder, we all know how good a coach he was. Wright isn't getting too stagnant, he's doing a fine job. Its not the coaches fault most of the time, the players need a good kick up the backside most of the time.

Don't, and I repeat, DON'T mention Kapil Dev. Some players wanted him out, and the media put undue pressure on him. He was not given a fair try...at all. Or try Richard Hadlee, or Imran Khan, or Wasim Akram.

rarely are the best players the best coaches. simply because noone else understands what made them so good, they are geniuses, they cannot pass on what they were born with to others. india are best off with a student of the game, even if they have not played at the highest level, like buchanan or bennett king

These are basic areas, and the coach must fix'em! He's not there to watch the matches! He has a job to do!

It's not the skill, but the attitude.

The coach does not bowl the ball for them so at the end of the day his power's extend only so far.

If those are basic areas and a player doesn't know that, then IMO that players doesn't deserve to represent his country. He should go back to the school cricket(where most players learn their basics), learn the basics and then try again. As for attitude, what has bowling 'No Balls' has got to do with the attitude.

An coach has better things to teach than that. Wright as a coach can only do so much, he can't go and play, at the end of the day its the players who have to go and play.

Is anyone of Hadlee, Imran or Wasim available ?? Even if they are, Are they qualified enough to do coach an International team ?

About Kapil, I think he got his chance and failed. I would never want him as our coach.

LMAO im pretty sure he (wright) knows that and covers that in the nets extra and would constantly emphasize that to the bowlers.. theres only that much he could do the rest lies on the bowlers to perform..

I strongly agree on lack of balance in the side. This thing should be very obvious to our coach and captain, but strangely its not.
Either that they don't care or they are short of ideas.

The Indians need a coach like Buchanan or Woolmer, who doesn't watch the proceedings, but is in the thick of things, or an all-rounder, who can help everyone, not just six players.

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Wright prefers to stay in the background and he sort of underplays his role as a coach, as opposed to guys like Buchanan, Woolmer and Jennings who like to be in the thick of things. With a captain like Sourav, who is always in the limelight, it is the coaches like Wright who will work out. Plus, I have always believed that a coach-captain thing is a partnership. You cannot take one out without taking the other out as well, most of the time (obviously, there will be exceptions) because the coach and the captain need to strike a personal rapport to get the team to any heights.
