Nice list, goes to show Sehwag is very underrated. btw did you know he's rated no 2 behind Dravid in the Test batsmens list as we speak.

incredible, i didnt realise Lehmans average was in the 50's...

I mean whats incredible is that he could be dropped while having that average...

i thought his average feel below 50, i notice Haydens average listed there is 58.14 enough though its now "only" a touch above 56.
im not convinced by this list though, its well known that balls per innings werent recorded all that closely in the early years, but i guess its about the most accurate list we are likely to get....

We will never know if this list is accurate but it is the best measure we have of this. It's nice to see some of the real oldies in there that scored really fast.

They did take a lot of effort from what was written. Calculating over rates in regards to time spent by batsmen in the middle, so it is fairly accurate I'd think.

yes its good to see that its not just todays quick scorers but people from a long time ago as well but theres noone from around 50s/60s

That's because 1960s Test Cricket was dominated by efforts not to lose rather than to win.

Surprised to see Ian Smith in the top 20. I thought Nathan Astle would have been higher than him.

Although Smithy was capable of being extremely brutal on occassions.

Stockley happily admits he was a slogger, so I'm not that surprised - the 173 against India was a day when it came off a little better than usual.

Astle has a strike rate in the 40s.

I am amazed at Jessop's career strike rate of 112. He didnt make the list only because of the minimum 1000 career test runs criteria. He must have been something else.

Wonder what Constantine's strike rate was ?

The other amazing thing here is Bradman's figures. One new he scored very quickly but to have a confirmation that he averaged 99.94 and had a strike rate higher than the Raving Kalu and the Boisterous Botham is still mind boggling. This when he hardly ever resorted to hitting sixes !!
