Bitterly disappointed by the crappy T&T effort. Typical that they get in and the throw away their wickets.
T&T have just managed to squeeze through though after beating the Leewards on Sunday, despite another big score from Runako Morton (80-odd).

The big shock is that Jamaica are on their way home after failing to defend 234 - a good score in the context of the tournament - against Guyana.

Xavier Marshall made 125 not out for Jamaica. He and Morton are around 100 clear at the top of the runs chart after this 1st phase. These two, along with Windwards pacer Kenroy Peters, have probably made the greatest inroads into the selectors' thoughts at this stage of the tourney.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of them will be appearing in the final four: Marshall and Morton due to their teams' elimination and Peters - I've heard - has picked up a "fracture".

I've always thought highly of Wilden Cornwall as a potential ODI player, though he's getting on in age.

To keep an eye out for in the future: Dinesh Ramdin (of course), Richard Kelly, Sherwin Ganga. Yes, some would I'm biased toward Trinidad and Tobago, but in all fairness they do have the youngest and least experienced team and the above players have displayed a fair amount of potential in their opportunities to date.

Of course Xavier Marshall is the name on everyone's lips currenly though. For good reason too. The young man is well on his way to putting more pressure on Wavell Hinds and Devon Smith next season. I can see him in maroon very soon.

158/3 in the 32nd over T&T.

Shazam Babwah typically played a brisk 17 then got out after a series of Dwaye Smithesque swipes. Pretty decent rising delivery to get him though.

Sherwin Ganga scored an excellent 64 and Daren Ganga batting well on 37.

T&T 16/2 in 4th over.

Daren Ganga last out for a duck to a beautiful delivery from Reon King and a near unbelievable slip catch by Dowlin. Sharp and low to the extreme left of 1st slip. Dowlin dove smarly to take a wonderful one-handed catch.

Guyana 160 all out.

Damodar Daesrath 49
Shiv Chanderpaul 43

To kind of answer my own question, I'd assume that at least 22 players will be named in the practice squad that will apparently get together at the end of the month. I'd suggest the following names to be whittled down to a squad of, presumably, 14 or 15:

Gayle
Lara
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
W Hinds
R Hinds
R Powell
Samuels
Morton
Marshall
S Ganga
Browne
Ramdin
Bravo
Cornwall
Kelly
Bradshaw
Collins
Collymore
Peters
Dillon
Washington

injury standby

King
Dw Smith
Sammy
Baugh

Contrary to what I was preaching before the OD tournament, I think Ramdin would do well if he were to go to Australia. That said, Browne has earned the gloves for the time being at least.

My squad:

BC Lara (C)
RR Sarwan (vc)
CO Browne (wk)
CH Gayle
S Chanderpaul
DS Smith
XM Marshall
MN Samuels
RL Powell
DJJ Bravo
RO Hinds
M Dillon
IDR Bradshaw
CD Collymore
PT Collins

That's 8 specialist bats, 1 keeper, 3 allrounders and 3 bowlers. If it's a 15-man squad, then either Smith or Marshall steps out. I'd like to see Smith in the squad, but Marshall would also get some good experience on the Aussie pitches.

I don't see Washington near the team atm, but Peters is extremely close IMO. Reon King also impressed me a lot in the OD final.

Anybody forced their way onto the plane to Australia in your view?
I think we'll see a surprise or two in the squad. I wouldn't be shocked at all if one of or both Marshall and little Ganga were picked. I also wouldn't be too shocked at a Reon King recall.

Assuming it'll be a typically convoluted series - I'd guess 4 games against both Aus and Pakistan in the round robin phase - I'd take Ramdin and Browne and give the youngster a couple of games.

It would also be nice to think that a young bowler like Peters may force his way in.

Other than that, can't really argue with your squad, though I don't think De Smith and Samuels have done enough to overtake W Hinds. I'd probably take Hinds and Ramdin instead of those two.

I was wondering why my squad looked a player light before. I forgot Wavell. He slots in and Devon Smith slots out.

Well, it's a 25-man camp, starting on Nov 29th and the list is as follows:

FULL SQUAD:

Brian Lara
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Daren Ganga
Chris Gayle
Xavier Marshall
Runako Morton
Marlon Samuels
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Narsingh Deonarine
Sherwin Ganga
Ryan Hinds
Wavell Hinds
Devon Smith
Courtney Browne
Ian Bradshaw
Dwayne Bravo
Deighton Butler
Pedro Collins
Corey Collymore
Mervyn Dillon
Reon King
Ricardo Powell
Dinesh Ramdin
Darren Sammy
Dwight Washington

T & T well represented after winning the one-day tourney, with both the Gangas and young 'keeper Ramdin among those included.

Predictably, the tourney's top bats Runako Morton and Xavier Marshall are also there; Reon King and - more predictably - Marlon Samuels are recalled to the Windies set-up and Dwight Washington and Deighton Butler are perhaps the most surprising picks. Dwayne Smith and Carlton Baugh are notable absentees.

I'm pretty happy with it overall.

See link to Deighton Butler above. Seems to be a strange pick based purely on statistical evidence. Didn't set the world alight in the recent tourney, has a mediocre List A record and is 30 yrs old. I assume Kenroy Peters, his Windward Islands teammate, hasn't been considered due to injury.
I only saw him bowl in the semi-final this season and he looked pretty impressive. Nice shape on the ball.

Shocked to Runako Morten in there - I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be in, but I would have thought that his past would have put him on the 'no thanks' pile.

I assume the WI selectors believe 'what's done was done' and want to give him a ssecond chance. If picked I hope for his sake, he takes it.
