Sports Direct, UK: Is this real? Can they be trusted for International shipping?

Dear CWers,

I was looking for a good light weight weight bat for myself and found this:

Slazenger V600 Pro Cricket Bat - SportsDirect.com

I personally love this brand and couldnt resist the offer. Now even if we ADD shipping to this price, its still cheaper as the bat costs Rs.13,000 ( GBP 130 / USD 200) in India. If I buy it from Sports Direct, it is GBP 75 + 21 shipping.

So I talked to a friend of mine who lives in Manchester (SD is located in Nottingham) and he says they have heard too many negative comments about this firm so check before buying.

Anyone tried Sports Direct before and how was the experience?

Regards,
Masud

It's legit. I mean, they may not have great customer service or a generous attitude towards refunds or complaints, but it's definitely a legitimate, trustworthy company and not a scam. Very well known.

That means I surely can give it a try. Since I am not ordering shoes etc there should not be an issue of the sizing etc.

Also what do you think about the bat and deal? :D

I actually bought my last bat from Sports Direct the last time I was in the UK. Previously I have always visited the factory and looked at a number of bats. This time I was pretty much retired so I wasnt interested in paying out for a quality new bat and had little interest at all in buying any bat of any kind. Long story shot, I saw a deal that was excellent at Sports Direct and purchased a new bat. It hasnt been the best bat I have ever had but it does the job fine and didnt cost me anywhere near the same time and money. I dont regret the decision at all.

Full, disclosure, I didn't buy mine online but from the store so I did have a chance to pick it up and wave it around. I stand by what I said though. It has been well worth the money.

Not a good idea

No, I would advise against it. Sport Direct is a popular High st (and on-line) store that ships rather cheap-ish cricket goods. I have never seen decent cricket gear in there. But thats just my personal opinion.
Oh, I think they are also known for employing people on zero-hours contracts.

A couple of points:

Firstly, Sports Direct and Slazenger are the same company. (Technically SD owns Slazenger) So any time you buy a slazenger bat, you are buying it from sports direct indirectly anyway.

So if you want to buy a Slazenger bat, and they're pretty decent bats, you might as well cut out the middleman and save money by buying it directly from SD.

I have probably bought about 15 bats in my life, from £20 ones to £200 ones. I've used Morrant, bought direct from manufacturers, and specialist cricket shops.

But by far the best bats I have ever bought are the ones I bought from SD. I would now never consider buying a bat from anywhere else. Not even if you gave me £100 free.

Some of the deals SD have are just ridiculous, you can pick up a model from the previous season for £30 that is of a quality that would cost you £100 in any other store, or a bat for £80 that would cost you £200 anywhere else.

I have no idea what their policy is like on refunds, because I've never known a bat from SD to break.

I just go down to their megastore to choose bats, but obviously if you can't do that then they sell the same bats online for an even greater discount.

TBF, Sports Direct shops are horrible, its like a sheep pen for scallies - Once you're in your trapped by a wall of tracksuits. But i've always found the sporting equipment I've bought from there to be of decent quality - No better nor worse than any other sports shops.

OK Mike Ashley is a horrendous fat ****, but so's Dave Whelan, you're feeding the devil wherever you go.
