It's amazing to think that India's weakest point are their opening batsmen. Like the one time we have a big hitting fast bowling all rounder and arguably the best death bowler in the game we're stuck worrying about the thought of possibly having our opening stands being like 50/0 in 15 overs lol. My team for CT would be this:

Rohit Sharma
Shikar Dhawan
Virat Kohli (c)
Yuvraj Singh / MS Dhoni
Yuvraj Singh / MS Dhoni
Kedhar Jhadav / Suresh Raina
Hardhik Pandya
Ravindra Jadeja
Ashwin / Random Other spinner / Another pacer.
Umesh Yadav / Shammi / Bhuveneshwar Kumar
Jasprit Bumrah.

India's squad announced: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, Mohammed Shami

Dhawan ahead of Gambhir and Pant is a joke right now. Rahane ahead of Gambir and Pant is also a joke.

Dhawan hasn't performed in ages... are they picking him just based on his heroics in the last edition?

Of the XV picked, the openers are not in top form- Dhawan has played second fiddle to the mighty Warner. He won't be so lucky with an out-of-form, converted opener alongside. That's Rohit Sharma- struggling for form now. Pandey is a good choice, and should come in at four. Kohli is struggling for form, so is Dhoni. At least Dhoni can flip his form around, Kohli less so. Kedar can strike, and has proven in ODIs that he can also build. Rahane can stay on the bench or as a sub-fielder.

The pace bowlers seem in form, but patchy- Bhuvi and Umesh have been striking often, but Jazz has not got as many. Pandya is not even a regular bowler- we're talking of Kedar Jadhav or Yuvraj level of regularity. Ashwin is coming out of an injury with no active cricket before this. Jadeja is struggling with the ball, and been patchy with the bat, as Yuvraj has been far better. In fact Yuvraj as a bowling all-rounder makes more sense than Jadeja right now. Shami should not get a game- he's been very poor across the event, and now bowling slower than even Bhuvi, who's actually decently fast now.

Dhawan is in some sort of form. Unfortunately he's got a non-opener, barely-fit and out-of-form Rohit Sharma as partner instead of someone comparable to David Warner.

What's the deal with Yuvraj? Is he aiming to play the next World Cup?
He can strike the ball hard at seven, in the final overs. He can also bowl a lot, maybe split overs 7-3 with Kedar. A straight swap for an out-of-form Jadeja.

Dhawan ahead of Gambhir and Pant is a joke right now. Rahane ahead of Gambir and Pant is also a joke.
Gambhir's exclusion was strange, as also Uthappa's. Pant is only a season or two old. Let him play four Ranji seasons first.

Dhawan's the next best performer in IPL after Warner, and also in good form since the start of last year, although he played just seven matches across that period. They picked a bloke playing active cricket right now.

Team looks a little shaky atm. Kohli's been in piss poor form since the Australia series, Rohit's just coming back from injury, and you never know what you're going to get with Yuvraj and Dhoni. Don't mind the Dhawan inclusion much, if anything Rahane is luckier. Gotta be his last chance in ODIs now.

Yeah I'm a bit apprehensive. Kohli just looks terribly out of sorts. Could go really embarrassingly (like a group stage exit, losing all our matches), on the other hand, India have recently formed a nice habit of raising their game for ICC tournaments, so let's hope that continues.

Dhawan is a legit gun in ODIs. Even when he is going through a tough time form-wise, he still picks it up in important games/ tourneys. There's no one in India that is better than him in the opening slot and most definitely not Rahane. It's amazing the amount of **** he gets thrown in his direction as though he's some chump averaging 30 at a SR of 70.

It's sad that Gambhir isn't given another shot, compared to Yuvraj especially. Won India the World Cup.

Yeah, but Gambhir's in good form. And Rohit isn't. At least should be ahead of Rahane, if nothing else.
Gambhir was given a chance in test matches recently - scored an array of 0s

Dhawan is a way better option in ODIs now

Wouldn't read too much into that tbh. Different formats and all and he's not exactly a great player of spin given the conditions in that series.
He has demonstrated in the past that when the format changes, he can turn into beast mode pretty fast.

I usually wouldn't but Kohli's the kind of player whose form has generally seemed to translate across formats. His slumps in ODI cricket usually come at the same time he's not doing well in tests either. Must be a confidence thing.

Also he's coming back from injury which is tough no matter the format.

He also takes a lot of pride in performing in the IPL. He's been **** there also. This happened in 2014 as well, I thought he'd shrug off a poor IPL after his T20 WC heroics, but his form carried over to England.
