Champions Trophy squad: Michael Clarke (capt), George Bailey (vice-capt), David Warner, Shane Watson, Phillip Hughes, Adam Voges, Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, James Faulkner, Xavier Doherty, Clint McKay, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Cricinfo reporting that as the squad.

Not quite sure what to think of this, TBH. Feels a batsman short, but I suppose with only 15 going the squad and the need for a fifth bowler, 6 specialists isn't too bad. Still unsold on Maxwell being there, and NCN's selection is interesting.

Biggest news for Cricinfo was the recall for Mitch Marsh.

It's a good squad.

I would imagine Voges, Maxwell, Marsh and Coulter-Nile will be the reserves at the start.

Predicted that Oz wouldn't make it out of their group and now highly confident that this will eventuate

Doolan? He doesn't deserve an ODI callup and would be better served playing on the A tour. I'd rather call up Marsh or Ferguson for ODIs or even Finch.

Thinking a little more about the side I picked earlier, I think we might be better served having a big hitter coming in at 7 like Marsh or Maxwell especially if Watson can bowl a bit.

I'm little pessimistic that our bowling squad isn't really suited to English conditions. I don't think they suit McKay, Doherty, Johnson so much - so the big hitter at 7 could be needed.

**** I hope MMarsh kicks on and gets decent FC and LO game time in teh next couple of years. If he blossoms we could properly piss off Watson forever from the Test side.

Yep fair enough Ferguson etc better choices. I didn't think too hard about that one and Doolan is on my mind. I also have concerns over the bowling. Johnson as a lead bowler suggests we are pretty thin there.

I really don't get what the selectors see in NCN's bowling

From what I have seen, his 2 qualities are being tall and quickish which is a description that could apply to quite a few bowlers in Oz atm

On the downside, he does not have great accuracy, variations or ability to move the new ball and doesn't make up for it by being a big wicket-taker

IMO, he is just another bits and pieces cricketer thrown in at the deep end by these selectors

I think they see a young quick bowler who hits hard and far and is athletic in the field.

Providing Robot can bowl close to ten overs in the first, and Maxwell can make up the rest after he is injured I'm guessing...

Warner
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Bailey
Wade +
Maxwell
Faulkner/Johnson
Starc
McKay
Doherty

...for the first game?

Haven't seen much of Mitch Marsh. While I don't think much (read- anything) of Maxwell as a test player, there's something I like about him in the ODI set up. Bit of Andy Symonds x-factor that we've missed the last few years.

I'm imagining the pitches are going to favour the quicks more than the spinners so that will probably help Marsh.

We could always* get rid of Doherty and play both Max and Marsh which would be a very aggressive move batting wise.

* if Watson can bowl 10

That's what I would do

Doherty was useless in England last year and I cant see him being any better this time around

Warner
Watson

Wade +
Marsh (hell, might bat Marsh higher than Wade)
Johnson
Starc
McKay
Doherty

Faulkner replaces Doherty if suited

also now that warner is back to his old bad self in ODers, he'll pull a ton out of his arse
