Defending 303 on a cracked pitch against the best batting in the league. Pead and Oleary got me off to a decent start, but Gill is getting flayed to all corners. Could be a tense finish if this partnership isn't broken or contained by someone. I really hate having Dan Cahill in my league.

End of Over 16: 89-3, runrate=5.56, reqrunrate=6.32 (303-4)
Gill 3-0-28-0
Collymore* 10 (11 balls)
Cahill 49 (35 balls)
Last Wicket: Govender c. Bromby b. Oleary 10 (FOW: 60/3)

Edit: Really close one, this - they're 207-3 after 37 overs, I was 208-2. Going to have to hope for a collapse in the last 10, I think, and it's far from guaranteed that either one of these batsmen will fail.

Edit edit: Well, piss. My first league defeat of the season, and that probably stuffs my hopes of automatic promotion to III as my NRR is too rubbish to do it without going unbeaten. Overhauled with one ball to spare. Bloody NT batsmen.

It's about my fourth season of Battrick and I'm needing some advice because I get cruicified each game.

Is it worth cutting my youth academy and some of my staff to make money? I'm sort of stagnant at 300K and probably falling slightly.

Also, when it comes to assigning ITSs, what is the best way to do it?

I run the academy just long enough to make three max-ITS pulls at the start of each season, when they're worth most, so I put max investment in on weeks 9-18. This strategy has yet to produce one even vaguely valuable player, of course, but it's just a matter of time. Oh yes, just you wait and see. I wouldn't invest anything in ITS until you've got 1.6m in the bank (for max interest), then try very hard to stay above 1.6m. I basically treat it as the zero point; it's crazy to give up 80k a week by not having that much in the bank.

As for cutting staff, which staff do you mean? You need 5-6 sports psychs and ten coaches, or your nets aren't doing you as much good as they could. Then the amount of PRs and FAs can just be optimised depending on how much cash and how many members you have - check out www.garyjones.co.uk/battrick to find out the right numbers.

ITS depends on what you want to pull; basic batsman/bowler you stick 12 on the primary, and 11 or 12 on the primary and stamina (choose which one gets 11, it makes very little difference). Pulling wicketkeepers and all-rounders is more of a lottery; let someone else do it, IMO.

My new purchase. 9.3mil... fair bit to pay, but if I hadn't got this guy I doubt I ever would've bought a new batsman.

Bloomin' 'eck 'tinho, that sounds like quite a spree. I've not been on this thread much of late -- how many players have you bought, and how much have you spent?!

Two batting pops today -- 20yo a/r and 18yo batting trainees both up to Superb.

Means I've now got three batsmen at Superb and four higher than that...which is nice. Four out of all those are still being trained -- two of the Superbs should hit Quality by the end of this season.

Will I finally have a batting order less fragile than a 14yo emo at a manic depressives' convention?

UPDATE: Shows how often I look at my team's BTRs -- I've got five above 45k, plus three above 40k when the wind's blowing in the right direction.

Yeah, as Smith said, it's been training mainly. I've had Bhutia, Gray, Mcmillan, Ralph, Mullis & Mulholland for a long time now. The seventh is Shaw.

Beyond those seven are three 17yos - prof/comp bat, prof/comp bowl and resp/comp bat. All on 2 primary nets each. Bhutia is nearly at masterful so I'll have another free net soon.

Actually, on that note... what are people's thoughts on training beyond masterful? Is miraculous worth the insane wage or would I just be consigning myself to future financial troubles?

EDIT: FWIW, my team looks like this - batting: 1 x masterful, 3 x wonderful, 1 x prof, 2 x resp. Bowling: 2 x sensational, 1 x exceptional, 1 x wonderful, 1 x prof. Solid but still need to get improve the resps and profs. I have to admit I haven't been reading this thread much of late... how is everyone else's team going? Have the likes of Cameron and Smith gotten a team that is actually half decent yet? Has Hakon finally got someone above quality primary?

Have a higher batstats than you tbh.

It's all mainly for show, though.
Yeah I've noticed your ratings have improved a lot. I only just had a quick look at your team - but you must be struggling in the finance department. Coburn & Conn  Coburn's wages alone are greater than my whole team's.

PS - will smash your Batstats this Friday with a full-strength GFI.
