Somewhat embarrassingly, and despite purchasing a prof/resp backup bowler last night for leg-crossingly painful sums of money, this pop still makes Piercy my fifth best bowler. Ah well, at least my first XI now has all resp+ primaries.
Haha, Piercy would be close to my fifth best bowler. But on that last point, about resp+ primaries... I still have three competent batsmen Two of them are 17yos being trained and should be strong by the season's end, but still, my team is the pin-up of all "filler" teams. Pretty much, if you're not remarkable+, you're competent

Sheesh, i put shame on the Four Pillars and Poor Fillers name, my worst bowler is Strong-Feeble, though my worst batters are Respectable-Feeble and Proficient-Woeful. Although i have a Respectable-Mediocre bat being trained, not yet ready PFL wise to get into the first XI.

Have gone for another fairly mix-and-match side for my FC match. Welsh Wizzards threw their last match, but I'm confident that the teamI've put out tomorrow is strong enough to compete for at least a draw, even if they play their top side.

    1.*. Patel, Strong/Resp (V.Def)
    2. Staton, Resp/Woe (V.Def)
3.+. Noon, Sup/Sens, Qual WK (Norm)
    4. Mohammed, Strong/Feeb (Norm)
    5.B3. Cash, Resp/Sup (V.Def) - Strong/Prof LHS (ATT)
    6. Wynne-Willson, Comp/Abs (V.Def)
    7. Creasy, Comp/Abs (V.Def)
    8.B5. Manzini, Med/Woe (V.Def) - Med/Woe RHS (V.Def)
    9.B1. Bewers, Feeb/Feeb (V.Def) - Rem/Qual LM (ATT)
    10.B2) Edworthy, Woe/Med (V.Def) - Resp/Med RFM (Norm)
    11.B4. Bent, Abs/Woe (V.Def) - Resp/Feeb RFM (V.Def)

Heh. Must make for some great dressing-room spirit . I s'pose though, in higher leagues that's pretty much true anyway - a proficient at high levels is going to be pretty much as rubbish as a competent, so there's little point having higher-grade filler anyway. Whereas down here in V it does actually make quite a bit of difference, since even my atrocious comp/med types manage a few wickets here and there.

Lordy, though, how much am I regretting selling my old wickie at the moment. He would've been a godsend right about now, as I struggle to keep Bromby upright; he opens the batting, never gets out, keeps wicket and gets two nets, all on comp stamina. Poor thing.

Humph. Sandwith's still hovering just below the 100K BTR mark.

One pop -- Fish's consistency to Respectable. Handy enough for a WK, but hardly worth shouting about.

Proficient batsmen are plenty useful at higher levels, being much more likely to eke out those 20 runs (and, more importantly, stay in for those 40 balls) than Competents. I'd make sure you get them defensive and with decent conc, though. In FC, Prof bowlers seem to do a job -- the game certainly seems more forgiving on my filler bowlers than the OD game is.

Whether they're currently worth their price difference is another matter, however.

All this talk about players made me want to look at my team, and the reserves. Not looking too bad, but my middle order is really lacking. Atkin will hopefully fill that hole, and ill be able to compete in Div III in a season or two. Stamina is my real concern though, and i dont see any nets freeing up in the near future. Oh well, i am happy where my team is at a whole right now even with the stamina situation. I have a shot at winning my OD league, and im confident of keeping my moral high with a bunch of draws in FC.

note: Had to abbreviate the skills to fit them in, all fairly basic.

My worst bowler was a superb-strong until I sold someone and now it is comp-med.

Haven't really thought about long-term strategy as haven't had much time to study my side and I haven't a clue how far people are from popping but I think an all-rounder is on the cards if I can scrape the money together for them. What do people train 17yo all-rounders on nowadays? Thinking I may need 3-4 nets for them which isn't really a go at the moment so wondering if I should wait until next season possibly.

    A 17yo a/r is worth it properly with 6:

    2 bat
    2 bowl
    1 stam
    1 field

You could get away with 1 bat though - and make a bowler who bats very well

Okay, quick transfer poser if anyone's around to weigh in: I need cover for Bromby, who is dying out there (dying, I tells yer). I have about 400k to spend, and in an ideal world I'd get something for tomorrow's match. Those parameters leave me with ... this guy.

Pretty much what I'm after (well, he'll do I s'pose); bidding finishes at 3am. Only problem - 275k opening price. Is this obscene? Am I mad to be even considering this? Or is it just a sign of the times?
