1. The only reason for the number of seam/spin bowlers not being taken into account is that BT doesn't allow page scraping so there's no easy means of working out how many of each bowler type there are (other than by checking manually, which for several thousand teams would take quite a while). The batting ratings aren't weighted because it involves subjective judgements which raptornex seems to be wary of.

2. Just a note that BatStats will be used only if i can't decide between two teams. Most of pots/seedings will be based on past cup performances and recent results against CW sides.

We got 36 teams whick is enough for a 4 team plate group, but i would still like 4 more teams. So we can have eight sides so those teams get a decent comp if they get knocked out.

Also that means that Adam has a spot for sure as all teams not involved in qualifers will have a bye next week.

3. 105 for mine, or using PY's formula I got 118 points.

Surely it would make more sense to do it:

5 x top order
4 x middle order

3 x lower end
no of seamers x seam rating
no of spinners x spin rating
fielding

As I have two spinners on prof rating, that should get more points than one spinner to get prof and 4 seamers to get resp? Obviously, it doesn't matter for mine as spin and seam are the same but for others, they may not be.

With that new one, I get 40 + 28 + 6 + (3*8) + (2*8) + 4 = 118.
But there's more middle order batsmen (4-7) than top order batsmen (1-3), aren't there? So it'd make sense to give that more weighting.

Shocking maths all round.86 for Smith, 67 for Greg.

I thinks its do with the fact that most people put their best batsmen at the top of order, not many people mix and match their batting order like you.

But that gives equal weighting to someone who is at 7 compared to someone who opens the batting which surely doesn't make sense either because a lot of teams often don't get down to 7 when batting. Even the lower order batsmen have more influence on the rating than the top.

I just think that when it comes to BT batting, the top three are way more important than the middle four a lot of the time and way more than the lower order. However, of course people like yourself and myself and several others who've spread batting out mess things up. No formula is ever going to be perfect

I've edited your post to make sense now too.

It is relevant to the thread title anyway because the seeding for the CW BT Cup 5 is to be decided by using some statistical analysis which needs ascertaining.

But thanks for the thoughts on community spirit, it's good to know you care.

I took pity on you Cameron.

14. I'll take the blame for taking this thread off topic, but its not that big of a deal. Looking at PY's formula i would give Top order a waiting of 4 not 5, as it should be on par with the middle not more really. The main problem with the formula is the lower order waiting which should be only be 2 IMO, as its important to have a No 8 and maybe No 9 who can bat, but the rest don't really matter too much.

For those who are worried about this thread going more Off Topic, i'll bring it back on Topic when i release the fixtures and groups on Sunday/Monday.
