Where should i improve

Clapo im probably just as experienced as you in playing battrick but my personal opinion is you need to get rid of those Mediocres definetly and also I think you have way to many compotents in your first eleven to be successful I mean they have quite nice secondries a few of them but to be successful in the League your are in atm you probably needed quite a few more resp/prof to counter a few of the higher teams.

By all Means take this on board or chuck it away in the garbage.

Cheers,

AD

Only have 1 mediocre, who is a backup Bat. I know the main problem is i don't have enough Resp players :(, however, i'm doing all i can to recitify the situation. Ludlow & Appleyard are about 3/4 weeks off of a Batting pop, and Verhoeven 1/2 from a bowling pop. Would like to do something more about it, but with members leaving, and only 80k in the bank, i can't afford to buy any established resp/prof players. Add to that, i don't have any free nets.

I know i'm outta my league, and will lose far more games than i'll win (i'm really starting to regret winning that playoff), however i know my team is capable off pulling off an upset or 3, especially if Stroud/Meyer/Groves/Savage & Walton have a good game. I want to make sure i have the right line-up though, so when that chance arises i can take it with both hands.

If you're up against teams you can compete with he's your best guy to open, if you're mismatched whoever bowls will get hammered. I'm sure they can hack it opening the bowling since it's only 5 overs. If you're worried about his PFL bowl him first and last (think that's number 1 in sets of 5).

Personally I would have Stroud at 2/3. It depends if you have anyone with cautious/defensive temperament (and good enough) to open.
Stoud's temperement is Steady, and the only player i have with a cautious temperament is Tracey, who is Com/Woe/Comp Stamina, which i doubt would be good enough to open?

Perhaps if i had Stroud & Appleyard opening together? Both are steady, and then have Nieuwenhuis @ 3 & Ludlow at 4, both of whom are attacking.

Yeah your team will improve gradually with more training sessions the longer you play the better you will get so you have probably improved a lot this season but you have also struggled as a result of other teams basically playing for longer than you.

You have some quite good depth for a side about to relegate to Div V so just keep it up

I'd look at offloading your 28yo while you'll still get a good price for him. You might want to consider getting his stamina up to feeble before you sell him, will get you an extra 200k or something like that. I'm sure you can get a more solid respectable or proficient in his place, depending on want someone of a young age or not.

Otherwise you could do with keeping one or two stamina nets all for a season and rotating them throughout your team. You can get away with bit part players like Nevin as they're too crap to bother with relatively speaking, but your fast bowlers could do with mediocre stamina, likewise for your openers or gun players.

I'm already planning on using Yousuf at one down. Don't wanna mess with the openers due to their Bradman-esque averages. Any thoughts?

Bruce keeps.

Still not quite sure how to select the team - what ratio of importance do you people attribute to primaries, secondaries, stamina? Because I'm basing batting Bruce at six due to the fact that all my other bats with a reasonable primary have awful secondaries/stamina/both which means they won't score runs.

Yes, I am fully aware that this team is **** compared to the rest of them posted here. :D

Priority for this year is to get a bowler to replace Keane (if he can bat its a bonus). I'll have my yp's to see what i can get. I also have 1.5M in the bank.

Nets are:

McEwan: 2 Batting, 1 Fielding
Norris: 2 Bowling
Pearce: 1 Bowling
Howell: 1 batting, 1 keeping, 1 stamina
Abdul Kadir: 1 bowling.

I've just given Abdul Kadir the bowling net, he usually performs much better than people with similar or higher bowling skills and is nearly Proficient, so i intend to get him up to strong to have him as the 5th bowler, with my new guy added to Pearce, Norris and Islam.

Just wondering what people would do with the nets, whether you'd keep Challinor and Abdul Kadir in batting nets or give Islam his bowling net back? just conscious of his wages getting to high. Was thinking of taking a bowling net off Norris, but that would probably go to the new guy when he comes (as would Mcewan's fielding net)

Personally I have 3 relevant secondaries equal to one primary level. So strong-competent would be equal to proficient-strong, which is equal to respectable-remarkable etc. There's no definitive rule to this, it's just my estimates based on what I've seen in reporter's summaries and such. There are obviously different characteristics even between these equivalent skills and a seriously deficiency changes this (a quality-worthless would be worse than any of the above). Stamina deficiencies have different 'walls', a guy with abysmal stamina might grind to a halt when they've got to 30-40, woeful might be around 50-60, feeble bats usually slow down towards a hundred, get a hundred then get out. Obviously these walls don't matter much if someone isn't going to bat long because they're down the order and if a player hits a wall during the last 10 they usually keep scoring til they get out quickly. Bruce's stamina doesn't really matter because he won't last long enough to use it.

Oh and you'll have noticed players have now aged, so help yourself to whatever 17yos you can find on Battrick - usual 'solid' rules apply.

I'd definitely take the second net off Norris and give it to Islam. Islam's wages won't go up that much. If he was trained to exceptional bowling he'd be about 35k a week, but that's a long way off and well worth it in my opinion. He'd probably be up around 25k a week at the end of this season. There won't be much of an increase from the consistency actually (compared to the primary at least) until you're beyond elite. I'd also give one of McEwen's nets to Challinor. With the level of your squad I'd be trying to avoid training up 17yos, should be looking at 18/19yos that are already good enough to improve your side and that only need the one net - freeing up nets for your 20-22yo quality+ players to push them up to wonderful+ so they're a long term player in your side (or worth 6+ million if you're that way inclined).

Ok thanks for that Scaly, that's a big help, will probably drop Bruce then and get a better batter in. Had a brief check of the market today, didn't see too many going for what I'd define as cheap though, will continue searching though.

EDIT: Also, do you think it's worthwhile picking a better 'keeper at the sacrifie of his batting, or is having a 'keeper who can bat essential?

Yea you'll have to wait til later in the week before the first wave of new YPs are out (assuming YPs will still actually work...) also there'll be lots of players who appear 17 on the market but are actually 18 when you see their player page ie the page when you click on their name (changes to a skills, age that happen after a player is listed don't take place on the main transfer market lists - there's probably a disclaimer at the top that says that)
