Wow, Trevor, am somewhat ashamed I only just twigged to the fact that you're blind, despite you actually having said it before. Guess it shows how much I pay attention. Anyway, I'm very annoyed that I've still not received any gate receipts for last week, as it means next week I'll be down to a meager 18k. And the game last week was a home game for me, and my ground was sold out (well, over sold due to the bug, so I'm assuming it was at least 3 quarters full), which means I'm missing out on quite a bit of money (given that I have 10,000 seats).

Best advice from me would be to not do what I did. There's a ratio of 45:40:11:4 so upgrade accordingly.

I went and put in 5000 covered seats

The transfer market never ceases to amaze me. Some absolute Muppet just paid me £217K for V. Low Resp Bat James Haldane, recouping all but 48K of what I spent on Greening, who is also 18yo and two levels higher in batting?! It also represents a £206K, or if you prefer, a 1972.7%, profit on a player I only had for three months. Mind you, the team I sold him to were from SA, and called White Boy, so if they were trying to make some kind'a political point with their name then I'm glad I ripped them off!

Also got £100K for Partridge, which isn't exactly daylight robbery to quite the same extent, but does still represent a pretty good day's business IMHO, for a 20yo with Abs Stam, Low Resp/Feeb Bat and High Feeb/Med bowl.

So my bank balance is now a slightly healthier £259K, with a home game to come tomorrow. On the flip side it has left me a bit thin in the batting department, with Comp Bat Wynne-Willson forced into the breach as a V. Attacking pinch hitter for tomorrow's match against 3rd placed West Reading.

Decided to go Poo or bust for tomorrow's match. Is that better Rev. James?) My next two matches after this are eminently winnable, but in order to take advantage of them, I really need to close the eight point gap between me and safety, starting tomorrow. Their team is solid throughout, but pretty unspectacular, with one Prof and two Resp batters, and one Prof bowler, but the rest appear to be made up mainly of Comps, save for one Low Med Batsman, who's sole purpose in the team appears to be a specialist Mike Brierley-style captain.

So I've switched my pitch to slow, with the theory being that my roughly equal bowlers can get the upper hand against their batsmen, hoping all the while that my slightly superior batsmen don't get too done by his gun bowler, and live long enough to plunder his two weaker-looking lowish Comp seamers. I'll elect to bat first, as I say, with Wynne-Willson, Comp Bat, ordered to swing at everything which moves like a pensioner getting burgled in the middle of the night, contrasted by Low Resp Bat Mullins, set to Defensive to act as the sheet-anchor of the innings. The beef of my batting is shifted to the middle order, with Staveley, who's due to pop to Strong any time now, at No.3, Strong Greening at No.4 and Comp/Resp Carless No.5. I do have better bats to put there ahead of Carless, but I've found that, probably owing to his Resp Conc, he's highly adept at mullahing the bowling when set to V.Attacking, and hardly ever drops below a run-a-ball - Doesn't always come off, but he averages 37.5 this season, which compares favourably with supposedly more skilled batsmen. Besides, if the gamble doesn't break my way, it shouldn't be the end of the world as I've got two Highish Resps in Patel and Dunfield to come in No.6 and No.7.

Bowling wise I'm using Sets of Five, with my best bowler, Mid Prof/Med Bewers opening with Burke, both set to Attacking. Burke is only my 3rd, and arguably my 4th best seamer, but he's Highish Resp and Destructive, and if I'm going to win I need to get through their openers. So I think I'm just going to have to swallow his Zimbabwean-esque economy, and back him to snare me a wicket or two first up. Edworthy is B3 to steady the ship if Burke explodes, with Resp/Feeb Spinner, Atherton-ham B4, and my pin-up Mullins B5, set to V.Defensive to bring the innings home for me.

So that's my plan anyway, although almost certainly I've wasted my time writing this, and yours reading it, because, as Scaly said, the BT match engine doesn't really seem to give a rat's knacker about tactics - However Baldrickally Cunning my plan is!

BTW, does anyone have a football team in Battrick's sister site, Hattrick? I've read through the rules and it seems a lot like Battrick, but a lot more complex - Just wondering how easy it is to use?

Later, Trev

Just put in another 7000 seats to improve my capacity to 26000. I'm 100,000 in debt after that but I should recover that soon. Does upgrading have an effect on attendance if it's started and there's a home match before completion?

i think at the moment there are a lot of clubs with a lot of extra cash in their bank accounts at the moment. so people are able to pay a lot for certain players. having said that, because battrick is still young, its often quite hard to get a gauge on demand and supply of players to the transfer market, so these prices are likely to flucuate constantly. in the world of hattrick for instance, there is around 700,000 managers. so you can be gauranteed that players of most skills can found at any given time. as a lot of people have found finding players that they want on the battrick transfer market has often proved a frustrating task. battrick probably needs to be 5-7 seasons old before the transfer market settles down if you ask me and gets a more constant supply to it... yeh

hattrick is probably a lot simpler than battrick tbh. you can only train one skill at the time, throughout the entire team that is. if you train your midfield, only players who played in the midfield for that week will get trained in that particular skill. the importance of secondaries only really depends on the players position, whereas in the bt world, secondaries seem to be of the upmost importance. but still, a pretty simple game, if you ask me

Yeah Hattrick is quite good! I'm in the Oceania league.

They have a step by step "license" that you have to do before you can access every feature. Once you've done that license it's a fairly simple game!

I "play it", in the sense that I have an account, but have no idea how to play. I think it's pretty complex, alot more so than BT - but I think you just need to learn all the levels (ie; learning Worthless through to Elite in Battrick), primaries, secondaries, tactics and training like in BT.

I'm trying something new - I'm going to open the bowling with my best bowler (who is a spinner), and bowl him through, for a bit of an NRR boost. He got a wicket on his 4th ball, now has another one, they're 2/8 from 3 overs. It's kind of neat, because I am usually the worst team ever when it comes to bowling bot teams out for low totals.

My new Prof bowler takes 3/9 as Boggles rattle through their bot opposition for 42. :cool2:

HAHAHAHA

Magical Ponies 41 (25.2)
Womack 16 (45), Extras 8, Griffin 5 (6)

Band of Hawks 1/42 (5.3)
Dunne 1/24 (3)

Band of Hawks Magical Ponies
Top Order: strong competent
Middle Order: respectable woeful
Lower Order: abysmal abysmal
Seam Bowling: proficient mediocre
Spin Bowling: competent mediocre
Fielding: mediocre woeful
MOTM: Chillingworth

My batsmen were all on very attacking, and I tried opening with Griffin who usually comes in at 3, but that's just **** poor. Probably the most appalling choice I've seen for a MOTM award though-- Chillingworth with 17 out off 11 for Band of Hawks, while Pepper took 3/13 from 7 and Molesly 2/6 off 3.

Chanderpaul 2/5
Malik 2/15

Boggles 43/0 (6 overs)
Abdul kadir 28* (20)
Chanderpaul 15* (16)

Ratings improved because my med/strong spinner didn't bowl.

Code:
Boggles
Top Order: strong
Middle Order: competent
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: respectable
Spin Bowling: strong
