I know. And they haven’t got anyone decent to come back into the side to help either

Australia are faaaaaaaaaaaaarked. No chance of coming back from this psychologically
Surely a break will help, I would have agreed if the match started this Thursday

Australian test team have had a few losing the unlosable games in the past

Slightly changing my team from day 3 of the last test and Denly is retained as opener.

Burns
Denly
Northeast
Root
Stokes
Pope
Bairstow
Archer
Broad
Leach
Anderson

Stokes should get to choose where he bats and when he bowls and the others can fit in around him - he'd make a much better captain than Root

Will they drop Buttler? Just made him VC didn't they?

In all the hullabaloo yesterday arvo I forgot Stokes absolutely bbqed him.

Norwood's on Fire
I can't see Buttler getting chopped. Especially given he was sawn off second dig.

I wonder who goes to first change if Anderson does come in for Woakes

Whatever you might think of the justice system he was found not guilty of any offence, so there was no reason not to reappoint him.
I think there's a reason not to reappoint a bloke out on the squirt at all hours throwing hands regardless, but anyway, matters not.

This 10 day break should ensure we’re not too mentally ****ed at least

Plus, you know, Steve

I couldn't argue about Northeast getting a middle order slot ahead of Pope, although obviously my vote would go to the Surrey lad. But Northeast batting at 3 on debut against this lot when he bats at 4 for his county may be stretching things. More to the point, you need to get on with enjoying Malta before you get in trouble with you family for posting here during your holiday.

Absolutely do change a winning combination. Roy isn't up to it, and not convinced Buttler is either. I'm picking:

Burns
Sibley
Root
Denly
Stokes
Pope
Bairstow
Archer
Broad
Anderson
Leach

A superb final innings effort from Root, Denly, Bairstow and Stokes does not paper over the fact the top order aren't good enough. We should be picking the best team available, and for me, neither Roy nor Buttler make that team right now.
I'm with that, allowing for the switching of Stokes and Pope as others have said. I'm not entirely sold on Sibley, but he can hardly contribute fewer runs than Roy. The other thing I like about your side is that ends the experiment of thinking that one-day specialists can translate that to test match cricket. But they won't make three changes, so Buttler will probably stay, especially as it was hardly his fault that Stokes ran him out.

Archer and Broad are each a place too high, but it probably won't make much difference by that stage of the innings. Maybe it will encourage Archer to think a bit harder when he's batting.
