2nd Test, Lord's, London

First hope is that the new groundsman has learned from his mistakes from the World Cup Final and the Ireland Test and produces a decent pitch.

Yep I would have no problem with northeast or hildreth at 4. Problem is Roy opening is a freebie for Australia. He could have been out 3 times early against Ireland before eventually going for single figures. And was never looking comfortable in either innings at Edgbaston

Roy gets too much ****. If ODIs and tests are completely different games then you can't know his test game isn't up to it after 2 games because you've watched him play ODIs. Top-scoring specialist bat on debut too.

I'm happy with Roy at the top, he'll chance his arm wherever he bats. I'd imagine someone like Murtagh on a green top would be his kind of nightmare, especially on debut, won't come across many Test bowlers like that.

For Aus team - probably Starc the only change for Lord pitch. u can't honestly NOT pick starc for Lords. Starc for Siddle i'd say. Its a tight call. Pattinson's batting is really good and looks more threatening than Siddle. Also Marcus harris for bancroft, who is out of his depth at test level.

I think Mo is deffo gone (for his own good as much as anything; looks completely in bits) and hopefully Denly has had enough of a trot to prove he's not quite made of the right stuff.

Leach for Mo is easy, but if Denly does get the arse it does open up quite a few possibilities. Sibley in to open with Roy to #4, Malan, Hain, Northeast, Vince or (more fancifully) Hildreth as a straight swap, or (if the selectors wanna bring the funk) a promotion for Woakes with Curran coming in at 8.

Zero chance that Moeen plays again this series. It's gotten to the stage with him and Lyon like it was with Amiss against Killer in the mid-70s. It's bad when a bowler dominates you on a tour but when it continues at home it becomes intolerable.

Noticed a video clip of him bowling a fast bouncer but would like to see that being done over a span of 5 days....He could either blow the Aussies away with uncomfortable pace or be a total bust.
We'll see if he's a bowling version of Jason Roy soon...

It does the 6 bowlers thing that you should never do but it is so easy to end up doing it with England and feel like Curran should be in there, could just play Foakes though. If you were putting together a normal team then really want another batsman in there and I would much rather have Stokes at 6 and Buttler at 7. If Pope had not been injured all season (I think he is just back) then he could bat 5 and you don't play Curran.

Who knows if Northeast would be any better than the rest we have tried but got to think he is a better batsman than Denly

In reality it will just be Archer in for Anderson and Leach in for Moeen.

Archer's in fine nick
Ha, just saw the report. 6-for and a ton.

Admittedly the Gloucestershire stiffs aren't quite Oz, but doing exactly what test class player should do to kids, has beens and never wozzers.

Averages over 30 with the bat in the FC game. Archer to open!
