Anyway I don't intend going around in circles all day over this. If he makes 975 runs or more in this series I will eat several hats. Just have to wait to see. If I'm proved wrong then fine.
Based on only this match and I've completely ignored the rest of his career

tbh I knew I was wrong the second I posted that

Cummins averaging 21.6 is a pretty incredible record, just quietly, given the nature of pitches he’s often bowled on.

Apologies if it's been mentioned earlier, but is Siddle the first Australian quick to play in four ashes series in England?
Lillee and McGrath managed three each, ditto Lindwall and Miller, I think.
tbf I have no idea before WW2.

Almost certainly not a record, but Rory Burns batting on all five days of an ashes test must put him in some pretty strong company.

I remember Sir Geoffrey doing it in his come back Test in 1977.

Smith needs 188 runs to reach 2500 Ashes runs. This would place him 6th all-time for Australia, passing Harvey, Ponting and Taylor.

Depends. If Australia win the toss and bat, it'll be day 2.

Broad about to go past some big names in most Ashes wickets for England.

    3. Rhodes (109)
    4. Barnes (106)
    5. Bedser (104)
    6. Anderson (104)
    7. Broad (102)

Broad’s got Warner 3 out of 29 balls, making his strike rate against him 9.67 (overall against Warner it’s 33).

Took a quick look at my H2H spreadsheet and other notable highlights (min 3 wickets are)

    Flintoff v Ponting 22.12
    Ali v Starc 12.00
    Lyon v Root 98.11
    Anderson v Smith 112.21

So Lyon is going to become the 3rd highest wkt taker for Australia tomorrow when he takes his first wicket of England innings

Will have to wait one more day. But the fact that he's level with Dennis Lillee has probably given a spreadsheet somewhere an orgasm.

Assuming the substitute is allowed that will be real history that will stand forever.
