In 13-14, they just fell away after Johnson's over to Trott before tea in Brisbane. That series effectively ended the careers of about half that team (Trott, Pietersen, Prior and Swann). None of the matches were even close.

This current team could have won in Adelaide and the series would be well and truly alive if one or two more guys had stood up in that match. Even Brisbane could have been completely different if they had set a target of 250+, which they really should have on that pitch. So in summary, they've had more chances to compete in this series since they are facing a team whose batting almost completely relies on Smith, but have failed to take advantage.
See 2nd innings Brisbane to me didn't have the feeling of "oh they threw that away", it felt more like "well, that's running to script now".
do you think people will be allowed to make violins?
who's going to make the violins?

Cook, Moeen Ali and Bairstow's dismissals were pretty poor, especially Bairstow.

By the time Bairstow was out the innings was more or less done, as everyone knew the tail would be blown away. Moeen just got stumped off a good nut, it happens.

Despite being a Durham supporter, I've never actually seen ''Borthwick's Ashes''. I had turned off following Perth 2013.

06 figures show we still had some application with bat. Or more specifically we scored 500+ in an innings at Adelaide and still crashed burned.

17 clearly shows us at the weakest we've been for a while. 2 tests pending

Mate Lyon isn't even as good as Swan, let alone Underwood, and I like Lyon, but that's ridiculous. And are we really thinking Warner is on the same level of Amiss or Boycott?

Lyon's already better than Swann, and yes, Warner is at least on the level of Amiss and Boycott, if not definitively better

Absolute lunacy. Warner only averages 36.81 away. Boyce averaged in the 40s in back-to-back series against the West Indian quicks!

Poor in India and Sri Lanka. Average in England. Piss poor in New Zealand. Boycott only failed (ironically) in New Zealand; he is 45 plus in every test environment, and also came against a stronger era of bowling.
