Perhaps what they need is a new points regime for series results. Award an away win as 2 A home win as 1 and a draw as .5 to the away team. Then the series would still be alive if the rain can not ruin England's good performance here. I just pulled these numbers out of my arse, but it is common knowledge that it is so much harder to tour away. I'm sure there are a better set of numbers that could be used.

Otherwise, series should count as home and away. So this series would no be decided until Australia tours England. Then this match, and the next would be very important. It would also have the benefit of forcing Australia, and others, to give Bangladesh tours here (as well as the minnows). The only down side is that it would make for a year to get results in many cases (such as Aus versus England). In many cases, such as with South Africa, the series could decided over one summer. I loved when the series were back to back and I considered them 6 test series instead of 2 lots of 3.

Anyways, stiff ****.... It is always good to get some parity back in a dead series. If England pulled off 2-3 it would have to make them go home feeling rather better than the demoralised outfit that they were only a week ago..

There is never a dead test series......and certainly never a dead Ashes series. There is heaps to play for here, for both sides. I'd reckon if Steve Smith sniffed any whiff of complacency or that his boy's weren't up for this or the next test then he would ****ing roast them (and the way Warner and Smith have batted today you can tell that is not the case). As for England they have the opportunity to save a **** load of face by finishing this series strong....like you say a 3-2 loss would be immense, if nothing else for the thousands of England fans that have spent a fortune to come over for the last 2 tests.

I know it's just a troll but knocking the likes of Cook and Broad for standing up once the series is lost is crap.......yeah we all wanted more from them the first 3 tests but, fmd we're not going to knock it back now are we.

So from that point of view it’s a nice way to spot future talent, almost a glimpse into the future if you will.

Stokes big breakthrough was getting his IPL contract with Pune, he got that largely on the back of his performances in the Ashes 2013/14 so it’s certainly a great place for future top players to hone their skills.

Cook does have a T20 hundred but despite this innings I just feel like he lacked the home runs and didn’t play enough offence for a major franchise to want to sign him.

There is never a dead test series......and certainly never a dead Ashes series. There is heaps to play for here, for both sides. I finally decided to take the plunge and join your wonderful forum. I am from America and got into Cricket fairly recently I love the game and my understanding is that T20 is now becoming the pinnacle of the sport. I was at the game in Florida when KL Rahul scored big against the Indies he must have hit like 10 home runs that day it was incredible to watch. I look forward to getting to know you guys and talking to you more about our wonderful sport.

I genuinely can't believe you think this is sincere. Seriously, he's been watching enough cricket for 18 months and still thinks we use the same terminology as baseball?

So apparently knows enough the game to understand that 200 runs is a tricky 4th innings target, that Warner is the type of player who would be important to setting up that sort of chase, and that Lyon (a spinner) could be important in the 4th innings, but apparently doesn't know that it's "bowling", not "pitching". Then there are the Indian deadbeats who claim they are superior on the back of 2-1 when the real result is 3-2. Anyway, the horse is flogged enough. I'll leave it alone.

Back to the test. Tomorrow can be a great day, even with the crappy pitch. Clouds for Anderson... It could be over so soon. For mine, England only needs 1 wicket (we know who) and the rest of the batsmen will tumble. While Smith is there, he'll keep the others from being irresponsible and hopeless. It could be one of the great draws I love to watch Australia fight for, so I can remember the good old days (terrible actually) when AB was our sole saviour.

I can kind of get the 7-3 collation because those series were close together, but the India series surely can't be collated like that because they were reasonably far apart.
