James Vince: Why are the selectors right? Or not?

Vince wasn't seen as a bad selection because of his domestic figures, he was seen as bad because of how poor he was in the 2016 summer, both as a batsman and fielder, suggesting he had neither the batsmanship, athleticism or concentration to be a successful Test player. The issue with his domestic numbers is that he hasn't done anything to convince people to change their minds.

As such his selection felt like a random stab in the dark rather than something undertaken with new evidence we weren't privy to.

I hope I'm wrong about him of course.

Good article by Derek Pringle in today's Cricket Paper about the Vince selection which cites Duncan Fletcher's gut instinct selection of Vaughan and Trescothick, averaging 20s and 30s in the county championship.
