CA XI vs England

Good thing this series is so difficult to access here. As far as the majority of England is concerned, there's no cricket on for the next few months.

This is the sort of collapse that reminds me of my school cricket days. Or the last Ashes.

Dunno why Jimmy wouldn't give Sandhu a full one coming back in first up.

Whatever happens between now and the second Test, England will have a smile on their face about their chances at Adelaide even more after this.

I don't know how much England will take out of causing a bunch of grade players to collapse. Honestly, these are guys who are behind 66 other guys in the country.

That's what we all thought about Vince...

In other news England's lower order/tail performing as I expected. It's one thing to be strong at home, but another to do it conditions you're less used to. There was all this talk last time about Swann/Broad etc. providing lots of lower order runs. Instead they were knocked over for fun.

That's the difference between Woakes and Stokes and other proper batsmen. Stokes can perform anywhere. Woakes' batting average away is 21, at home it is 44. Broad is 25 at home, 13 away (although obviously he's now useless everywhere). Moeen drops a bit, but not nearly as much. If England's 7-8 are Moeen/Woakes - then it's not strong in Australia. They're just average numbers 7/8 really. In England it would be like having two proper batsmen.

I wouldn't count on too many lower order runs against Starc. Seems to be a specialist at knocking over the tail.

I think that is going to be the contest of the summer tbh. The English middle/lower order is ridiculously good, weakened by no Stokes granted, but still ****ing strong. Starc does do well at finishing sides off but he wouldn't have bowled to many 8,9 and 10's of the quality that England will put up.

Runs from the lower order are going to be essential for Eng to be competitive, if Starc does find a way to run through them consistently then it will indeed be a long and painful summer for us.

Imo a lower order of Woakes, Overton, Broad and Anderson doesn't look particularly inspiring. I don't think Woakes is true all rounder class at international level, especially away, people barely blinked when he got injured. Overton did nothing in warm up and Broad is nothing with a bat anymore. Granted yeah it's not at full strength.
