I was going to finish that post with "any any other XI is stupid" but thought better of it since that makes me seem a tad too pro-Watson

It'll be interesting to see what the XI looks like by the end of the series.

I'm so ashamed. Grabbing a pint is usually the best way for me to get over hangovers. I was absolutely ****ed that day though.

I'm not saying that Haze is better than Johnson and/or Harris overall, but he is the first bowler I would be picking. If Lehmann, Clarke etc like what they see from Harris in the warmup game he is a lock too. Johnson is still ahead of Starc IMO, so that's my 3 quicks sorted.

The spot that I'm most interested in is our number 6. Marsh vs Watson vs Marsh. I understand Watson's role is one of containment but surely the selectors must be concerned about his inability to take wickets and make valuable runs.

    Aus in Eng 2009 8 overs 0/49
Aus in Eng 2013 85.3 overs 2/179 (good economy rate) That's in 9 bowling innings, so he gets through around 10 overs per innings. That's pretty important and I doubt any of our part time spinners can get through those 10 overs so cheaply.

Watson has a reasonable record against England and in England, thanks largely to a big 100 in the last match when the series was already decided. Since the Oval Test, in 12 innings he has made just 339 runs @ 28.25 and 7 wickets @ 44.86 with an economy rate of 2.65. If only his batting and bowling averages were the other way around.

With 5 Tests in quite close proximity, there is about a 1% chance that we are going in with 6 specialist batsman so this means its just between Watson and MitchMarsh unfortunately, as I feel as though a healthy Henriques or Faulkner could do a better job than what Watson does.

So after all this, with the two guys mentioned above out of the squad, I agree with Dan on the XI he has picked with Rogers and Warner switched around for all the Gob like people out there.

Why pick someone who is turning it slowly when you can pick someone who is turning it quickly.

I actually do think that lyon is far better on a green seamer where he can get speed and bounce as opposed to a SC pitch where it spins big but the spin is low and slow.

But do you think he is better than any of the 4 quicks on a green seamer?

yeah bounce helps lyon more than huge spin.

All pace attack is playing it wrong, green seamer or not.
