    Sure there are always uncertainties. And in case of an uncertainty it should be benefit of doubt to the batsman, instead of the benefit of doubt to the on field call. That's the fundamental flaw

    Nah, I disagree with that. The on-field umpires should already be applying benefit of the doubt to the batsman, which makes it a moot point. If they're not, that's their failing.

    But it's a split second instinctive decision. It just diminishes the effectiveness of all the tools at the third umpires disposal.

    By your logic, even in stumping, runout calls, the third umpire shouldn't give the benefit of doubt to the batsman.

    There is nothing more consistent in cricket then KP taking a semi-risky to risky single to get off the mark.
