*Official* Second Test at the Adelaide Oval

How much of a concern is Anderson's output to England supporters? From what little I saw at the Gabba he bowled decently but not as pentratatively as he has been in the more recent past. He also wasn't great at the back end if the England series. Anyone know if he's carrying a niggle or heard whether he's a bit fatigued?

Cue match figures of 11-82 in Adelaide now I've raised this issue.
Undercooked going into the Brisbane Test with only 30 overs in roughly 3 months. Also dropped catches off his bowling. About half a dozen in the last Ashes.

The fear that only a few arc-seconds separates the Anderson who leads attacks and wins matches; and the Anderson who bowls decent, but mostly anonymous stuff.

As an England fan, that is probably my single biggest fear (even more than Cook and KP (and previously Trott) not finding form)

Still this is an improvement on 7 years ago when the latter Anderson would get visibly targeted and hammered.

Given that Broad never fires in consecutive matches Jimmy best do the business this time given that Finn isn't going to play

Both captains at risk of bowling first on Thu, fooled by the inclement weather we're about to get which will extend to the morning of the Test.

Bat first on AO. Always. Even if there's cloud around, still good batting conditions and you're more likely to take advantage of that juicy reverse on day 4/5.

There's no way anyone would bowl first on AO, even if it's been raining for 8 years straight in the lead up.

Apparently the pitch looked basically ready yesterday, meaning that in a couple of days time it will be prime for batting but should drop off and turn pretty rapidly and also scuff the ball more.

Bowling first at Adelaide would be an instant sacking offence IMO. It would be that bad a decision. There's surely no way either captain would be considering it.

Don't you mean 'there's no way anyone would bowl first'? :p

International Coach
Vaughan raised a good point in the paper today. Having climbed the Ashes Summit (a couple of times at home and out here just three years ago) and also winning in India, have the senior English players got the appetite to fight themselves out of the hole the team is in? Of course they will try hard, but at the elite level there's a difference between being motivated and being hyper motivated; between effort and hyper effort. By contrast, only one Australian player, namely Clarke, has touched the Urn.
