I think the beamer was underutilised when bowling to Bell in England personally. I would keep it as a surprise option out here though and probably only bowl it 4 out of every 6 balls.

That assumption might have been fair if Shane Warne was staring down the crease at him (as opposed to some pub league spinner they plucked out of nowhere)
    World XI Since 1990 -

    1. Gooch 2. Dravid 3. Ponting 4. Tendulkar 5. Lara 6. Kallis 7. Gilchrist 8. Akram 9. Warne 10. Ambrose 11. McGrath

...... who proceeded to paste England's finest for a run a ball 98 on debut.

If someone tells your hero Mitch that's the plan then he might just land a few on the strip

    Don't get this thread.

The way you get good batsmen out is by bowling good ball. Sure to Phil Hughes you might have some specialist plans, but I'm pretty sure to Bell they'll want to hit the top of off with some swing and/or seam. Not exactly revolutionary.

mmmm I'm sure they could spike the drinks. However, maybe the lentils and spinach for lunch could do the trick?

One - well, not a flaw but something to work on - thing I've noticed with Bell is that he likes to defend from the crease. It's very compact and he plays it late, so it works, but it does mean he can be a bit vulnerable if the ball jags a bit at pace or if - more importantly - he misjudges the length. You just have to bowl quite straight at him, really, and work from there.

Mitch made Bell look uncomfortable a couple of times in 09. The slingy action tended to interrupt Bell's technique a bit.

Problem is, Mitch needs to be bowling the correct line over-after-over to make this work.

Problem is, Burgey, he's a blatant pie-chucker with the ball.

And for a bowler, that's usually bad news.

In his last match he went 0-89, whilst Swann did about 4/50 and Root 2/9.

He was bowling not only with a sore hip but in completely different circumstances to batsmen of higher quality, he really didn't do that badly with the ball, but I agree he wasn't test standard
Proudly supporting the world's no 1 spin bowler Rangana Herath and the mighty Sri Lankans!

I even made a domestic thread

I may be being hard on the lad, but to me he looked like a poor man's Ashley Giles.

And I dare they the selectors will vindicate this. As confusing for them as his 98 must have been.

Lyon should never have been dropped for Agar. Just as he shouldn't be dropped for Ahmed at te start of this series.

Lyon looks tidy, but doesn't carry himself like a stereotypical Aussie.

Hence the hatred of him by the selectors
