Would be more than a little upset, Flower has more or less created this period in the team's history.

Hope Flower stays, good luck to Morris, done a good job. Was always a case of when though once Flower gave up the one day role.

Flower is probably sick of touring at this point in his life. King of Spain to take over?
Probably is, a bit like Hussey leaving the Aussie side the timing is a little bit meh but if they don't want it any more you have to accept it and move on and say thanks for the great years. Just wish he could do one more tour if he is going then have a transition at home rather than the most important tour of all.

Has any member of non-playing staff effected such a pronounced improvement to a test side before? He must be up there with the best coaches ever. Good news for everyone else if he goes.

Fletcher, taking a crap team from the bottom to towards the top. Took a while but he did a fantastic job with England until they won the 05 ashes.

Duncan Fletcher is the only one that springs to my mind. It's easily forgotten how much he achieved before it all turned sour in 2006-07.

EDIT
Beaten to it by FJ but still worth repeating

Agreed, to me there have been 4 significant players in our journey the last decade.........Fletcher, Vaughan, Flower and Strauss. Been very lucky with those 2 combos.

5 you missed off Nasser Hussain. He started it with Fletcher and Vaughan took it to a new level, without Hussain though we would never have had the platform to push on from.

Latest on cricinfo is that Flower's possible departure won't be until after the away Ashes series, and the final test of that series is our only away test in 2014.

Completely agree with this. Lots of respect for Nasser as he was the skipper when we were ****, the other skippers came in when we were at least on the up.

That would make sense, if the next ashes was 15 months away I might be concerned about Flower leaving now.
