England Tour Squad for Australia

Well all the Flintoff antics were allowed so why treat Monty differently especially if this is a one off?
Allowed? he lost the captaincy over it didn't he?

Personally, I'm with Furball, I couldn't give a monkey's but England have always been pretty prissy over this stuff.

Fat Gatt lost the captaincy over the barmaid thing FFS.

He lost the captaincy as he was a crap captain and was only a temporary replacement anyway.

Captaincy I think is different, but provided it's a one off incident then it would be a massive over-reaction to drop Panesar from the squad for this.

edit: the pedalo incident was during the World Cup when Vaughan had returned as captain anyway. IIRC Flintoff was banned for a game and stripped of the vice-captaincy.

To be fair he harassed a group of women then pissed on a bouncer. Way worse than anything Fred did.

Yeah but how many times was Fred reprimanded for his drinking etc... and still did it?

Dropping Monty would be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Different people in charge now though. Not sure him missing a tour of Oz is particularly cutting off our nose, TBH. It hasn't happened yet though. I think he'll go, and they'll get Kerrigan to play a lot of games for the other teams in preparation for later tours. Don't see a lot of point in him carrying drinks for a few months.

Meh, they've picked Eoin Morgan for England before, safe to say they don't care that much about FC records.

I dunno myself, I think the fact that the A-Team tour is in Oz at the same time, means the main squad will be more a negotiation. I expect all the experienced guys to get the nod, but really wouldn't be surprised if there is an injury that they'll bring in some-one performing very well for the Lions.
Agree, the picking of the squad is much less definite than it used to be. I think the only really significant thing we will learn when it is announced is if Compton and/or Carberry are included.

The Gatting bar maid bit was a made up story which the authorities made stick by calling on friends in the Press - they wanted Gatting out after the Rana incident.

They'll take Monty. Kerrigan doesn't turn it enough atm. He's better than Doherty but so many are.

I wouldn't touch Compton with a ten foot bargepole.

Wouldn't object to a Carberry pick (been a better player than Compton for a long time) but don't think they'll go that route. The Selectors will have a 'next opening batsman' in mind.

Get Robson in The Lions to tie him up.

No way they can justify Buttler over Davies. Poor FC record. Bairstow as the backup WK makes most sense to me.
Would go with that so long as it's made clear that he's not being picked as a specialist bat and only gets a game without the gloves if there's a huge run of injuries.

Does that actually tie him up? I thought it had to be a full international?

Wasn't Alam playing for Aus A before he became eligible for Australia, thus suggesting that A / Lions games are completely meaningless in terms of international availability.

Yeah if they want to tie him down then play him in a one dayer after the ashes.

Has Robson done enough to tour? Even if he has its still a big call to take him given that he would be under fire if he played a test.

No, i'd take Compo if we need another opener. A debut in Australia is unfair on the lad. Hence I said to pick him for a one dayer if he is that close to selection to tie him down. Not sure how close he is and how much is media talk.

I'd say Robson has no chance of making the full squad. He's basically had one good season and he hasn't been selected for the lions(not even in the experimental side to play aus later this week) yet. He isn't get selected.

King Pietersen

International Captain
Openers

Alastair Cook
Joe Root
Michael Carberry

Batsmen

Jonathan Trott
Kevin Pietersen
Ian Bell
James Taylor
Gary Ballance

Wicket-Keepers
Matt Prior
Jonny Bairstow

Bowlers
Tim Bresnan
Graeme Swann
Stuart Broad
James Anderson
Chris Tremlett
Graham Onions
Simon Kerrigan

I'd take Carberry on tour, just in case as I reckon he'd flourish in Australian conditions, but I imagine England will go with Cook and Root for the final game of this series, and into the Ashes in Australia. Then I added James Taylor and Gary Ballance, with one of them getting the number 6 spot, probably Taylor. I then stuck Bairstow in as the back-up keeper, don't rate him personally, but he'll tour. Then, the bowlers pretty much pick themselves, with Kerrigan getting in due to being the best performing spinner in the CC. Would have gone with Monty, but after his recent behaviour, I can't see them taking him with them to Australia.

Moeen Ali? Really?

Cas against Robson is not stringing 2 seasons together so there's no way Moeen deserves anything just because he's got some runs in division 2 - was woeful in division 1 last year.

Don't reckon there'll be too many 'new, names in the squad. Could be something like:

Cook(c)
Root
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Bairstow
Taylor
Chopra
Prior
Swann
Panesar
Broad
Bresnan
Anderson
Tremlett
Finn
Onions

King Pietersen

International Captain
Does Moeen deserve a place more than Ballance?

Fair points. Just been impressed with Moeen whenever I've seen him. Ballance probably would be a better option though TBF.
