*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

Don't think it matters at all, really. Maybe in a different match situation but not this one. He's still out there, that's the important thing.
We're going nowhere though. At current rate we'll not even avoid the follow on today. The bowling has been good (Starc aside) but it's crying out for us to try to up the run rate stop inviting the pressure.

Can't agree with Uppercut on this one. We're nearly half way to the second new ball and we have 80 runs. Barely 2 an over isn't good enough in this circumstance if we have any pretense whatsoever of winning this game.

Spent the whole of yesterday crying about the English rate, Swann didn't bowl until nearly the end of the day.
Didn't watch or post anything yesterday... said stuff today that was more related to ball drying tbh. It's been a series thing as well

Who is behind this strike rate rubbish? Why have we just gone into our shells massively?

I'm not asking for someone to come out and smash it from ball one but we are just so negative when batting, we are putting pressure on the next batsmen constantly.

Why does it matter? Root's 49*, and doing his job perfectly. Australia have bowled pretty well, and we've only lost 1 wicket, stop moaning.

Wasn't meaning you were crying, just Australia former players/journo's on twitter. Australia's over rate has been no better than England's this series, obviously as Swann has bowled a stack of overs. England slowed it down yesterday with the ball drying late on to stall the declaration, Clarke is slowing it down here by constantly making Trott away of field changes to put pressure on him.

It's a team approach, not just having a pop at Root. It's so negative and we are creating problems for ourselves.

It seems our first approach is to not lose before we think about winning. Just don't like Cook as a captain TBH.

Good knock from Root. Has fought it out against some good bowling, although he should have got there sooner as he let Starc off a few that doesn't matter as he is there and scoring runs.
