    There's plenty of exceptions tho. Clarke, bowls left, bats right. Ponting, bowls right, bats right. Tendulkar, same as Ponting etc.

    That's what the protection does though. It forces Pietersen to do something else, now if he wants to play down the ground he'll get a single tops so its not that attractive. He'll play in different areas and that will force the dismissal. Sometimes putting deep fielders is a positive move.
