Are we really going to continue with Wade as our keeper. The guy is awful with the gloves.
Except for Haddin (who is 35 now) and maybe Chris Hartley (32), there is no one else in the shield anywhere near him in terms of batting, so he is probably worth continuing with, he should improve.

Haddin's keeping wasn't anything special in England last time around, I remember thinking how much more superior Manou was when he got a game.

Hartley could handle it and I think Paine could too but it appears as though Wade and Haddin are the front runners so we are just going to hope Wade improves.

And thoughts on Wade playing as a specialist no.6? Keeping this summer has been atrocious and it certainly doesn't do Lyon any favours.

Perhaps if the selectors really fancied his bowling he could, but his keeping hasn't all been bad, remember the Sangakarra catch? I thought he kept well after Hobart.

Definitely something to consider.

He's very poor with the gloves but his batting has been important. And his bowling is pretty decent. Being an ex Aussie rules player I'd imagine he'd be decent in the field.

Hartley or Paine would then keep I guess. What's Nevill like with the gloves?

That catch was more like an outfielder's catch than a keeper's. His keeping is undoubtedly poor, and it may seriously cost us in India. That's not to say it won't improve with time, but short-term it's a problem.

In India? Wasn't his keeping in the West Indies (similar conditions to India) really good though, as well as the world t20 in SL? I think England will be a bigger problem than India, he struggles with the bounce in Australia I think, particularly to Lyon who bowls a lot of overspin.

Mm, true re: bounce. I honestly can't remember what his keeping was like in the WI, though, so I'll have to take your word for it.

I'm sorry but Wade was just completely dreadful this summer and against other teams it will seriously cost us. I think he'd make a useful specialist no.6 as he did reasonably well with the bat but we need to look for a better keeping option.

He has poor technique and that is a problem when the ball does something unexpected like swing, turn and bounce. Standing back he has more chance to react but up close he can't. Problems are looming in India and England I think.

Surely he must have some basic ability. Can't Australia just find a decent keeping coach and work night and day with him to improve? Compare Prior of 4 years ago with what England have now after Bruce French got to work with him.

No doubt that's exactly what's happening with Wade atm it's just that serious sporting improvements happen over a matter of years not weeks. Either you drop him now and get someone who's already done those hard yards or stick with him for the next couple of years.

6. Wade
7. Nev

Problems solved.
That was my question before. Is Nevill a quality keeper.? I've not seen him keep or heard much about his keeping.

Certainly seems he can handle the bat at FC level.

Nevill's a class keeper.

I'm personally not that convinced on his batting, probably seen too much of him in Melbourne Grade when he didn't do very well.

btw, I went to school with a kid whose first name was "Neville". Pretty rare to meet anyone with than name nowadays.
