Have to lose more than few kilos tbf. What's his story? Has he genuinely put in effort but given up quickly?
From what I have heard from people in the know he is quite a solid, stocky sort of guy. No doubt some fat on there, but he can supposedly bench press ridiculous amounts.

Yea absoulutely, was always the strongest guy in the redbacks squads by an absolute mile. Refusal to even try and drop the kilos tho.

Not the worst combination bro, though I'd love to see Harris' name there instead of Johnson

Interesting stat supporting Johnson for the Ashes ;).

Watson when Johnson playing: 54 wkts @ 26.85

Watson when Johnson not playing: 8 wkts @ 51.62

Picking 6 specialist batsmen is fine tactic when you have 6 Test standard batsmen. Though I guess they keep giving a spot to a specialist spinner, when there isn't any Test standard spinners in Australia. So the value of baggy green has reduced a lot over the last couple seasons.
Lyon averages 1 more than Swann and 2 less than Panesar.

In the last Ashes, Australia had 6 people who were playing for NSW at the time in their top 7 for the Sydney test.
1) Watson 2) Hughes 3) Khawaja 4) Clarke 5) Hussey 6) Haddin 7) Smith

Still find it utterly bizarre Hussey is playing in this latest match. He's left you in the lurch, why should he get a swansong, you've won the series time to give the guys who have got to play in the big matches coming up game-time.

Dropping him would be very harsh considering what they let Punter get away with. Had he been dropped before the last Indian series someone would have had the opportunity for experience. How could they have been so short sighted as to think both of them would make it through 2013? Age was against both of them and form was an issue for Punter in particular.

Punter did bowl out before this series though, and Ponting's form hasn't been that terrible, I felt he did it to let young oz players get experience, he'd have killed this lankan attack, past it or not.

I'm not saying he should have been dropped before, but after the decision had been made. Don't see how this is good for oz, you've won the series anyway, would probably win the last test if youy brought Steve Smith in. Put a contender in instead.

Team for the first Ashes Test

1. Warner (26)
2. Hughes (24)
3. Khawaja (26)
4. Clarke (31)
5. Watson (31)
6. Wade (25)
7. Maxwell (24)
8. Starc (22)
9. Pattinson (22)
10. Siddle (28)
11. Lyon (25)

12. Bird (26)

I figure if they could give Steve Waugh an extended run on all-round potential, they can do the same with Maxwell (especilly as there's no other batsman knocking down the door)

Assuming he's fit, if Bird doesn't play the first Ashes test I will mail you my left nut.
