Judging by the weather forecast that's coming up for next week (Heatwave) the ball is not likely to swing as much as normal.

Depends if there is cloud cover with the heat....if there is the ball could be hooping round corners.

Having an attack of say Pattinson, Siddle/Harris and Starc in it would make for a very good tail as well. Guess it's gonna come down to the pitch and conditions on the day...although Lyon being omitted probably won't even be considered even if it's ideal for pace bowling.

Well, there was a whole thread about it and the consensus seemed to be that Lyon should play.

You do have a point about Starc being perhaps more of a specialist swing bowler than the others on offer. And yeah, he does offer a bit of variety. Pattinson is quite similar to Harris, and while Bird and Siddle aren't exactly the same, they do both operate by trying to get just a hint of swing or seam and focus more on line and length. Starc is more of a hooper.

Basically if Starc plays I think it's more likely to be at the expense of Harris (and Bird). Pattinson and Siddle and Lyon are relatively firm picks in the selectors' minds from what I can tell.

Would be a strange heatwave to be associated with cloud cover.

I think it's the worst idea since the square wheel. A four man pace attack means a five man pace attack because of Watson. It's stupid. Jog on.

    Heat wave = 20 degrees doesn't it?

I'm not advocating excluding Lyon at all but I don't really expect Watson to do much at all with the ball. I would have his line at 6.5 wickets for the series.

    Bresnan for Finn then?

Will reverse once the ball scuffs up on the hard surface. TB swings all the time anyway really, more than other grounds over here at least.

Na it doesn't. The 4th pace bowler for me would be Starc, who provides something very different to the other bowlers (which Watson doesn't). Watson also can't, and shouldn't, have to cover the amount of overs a 4th pace bowler would. In a fairly injury prone attack, it would mean overs could be shared around more amongst the front-line bowlers, and Watson ideally wouldn't have to be used at all and could focus solely on his batting. I personally would just prefer a three man pace attack without Starc, but if it was a choice between a three man attack with Starc vs a 4 man attack minus Lyon, then it would be pretty tempting.

So 30 degrees forecast for the entire game and we play four quicks plus Watson, and with Warner unlikely to play and Clarke's back rooted there's not even a part time spinner unless the People's Champion plays?

It'll end up like the Oval in 09. A shambles.

Going by the ****house summers we've had for the last few years yes but it's forecast for 28C which is almost death valley conditions these days. Spin will have a big part to play in this series if it stays as dry as it has been.

Spin played a part in the NZ series when it was cold and wet so bound to have a say if it hot and dry.

Going in without Lyon is a ridiculous notion. So incredibly ridiculous it is not worthy of debate.
