Man of the Series

Yeah, if there was any doubt, it's been well and truly settled now, even if Anderson takes all ten in the second dig.

It's hard to appreciate the epic nature of Cook's series here. This is an all time series from one player. 30, 50 year's time and people will look back on these numbers in something approaching awe. Incredible really.

Yeah and you had 2 buggers who did the same in 89 in Taylor and Waugh. Shows how great they were that year that only Vaughan and Cook since have had anything like a series like that.

Only problem I have in awarding Cook the award is that it's a bit of a stretch to call him a 'man'.

The **** was in a choir ffs.

So funny that him and Hussey were probably the biggest question marks in their batting line-ups before the series (maybe Colly & North aside).

Cook gave a decent interview before where he said that when you are in form, you have to make it count, and that Gooch told him hundreds don't win matches, big hundreds do. I used to criticise Cook for either not converting his 50s or getting out in the low 100s all the time. Bloody hell, he's shut me up. The guy's six months younger than I am, mind boggling really.

Think if anything it gives me a greater appreciation of guys like Mark Taylor who have put up epic numbers in past series. The fact that Cook would still have to score another 70 or so runs to surpass Taylor's series output in 1989 makes me appreciate what an incredible effort that must have been.
