You have to question the decision to bat. Seriously, what would you rather do on a day like this. Pop on and off the pitch giving your seamers a rest on a greentop with clouds around? Or try and get set for small tricky batting periods?

It's a no brainer! Especially when you consider the way the series has gone. 4 games in a row now they've really screwed up the first day while batting.

Eugh I'll switch off when he comes in to bat then. I can't do that when England are playing.
There are SO MANY worse players to watch than Hussey, he is only bloody anoying when he refuses to get out against England.

Well, if Hughes and Clarke are going to cop **** for their shots, then Khawaja surely deserves it for that. Poor cricket.
At least Hughes has the excuse of being technically inadequate at this level to throw in which is not something the others are guilty off.

Christ, Sky have just shown the wickets that have gone down today. Hughes just looked woeful for his dismissal.

A greentop? This? Goodness me no.

Did rather come out of nowhere, had been battling away pretty well before reverting to direness.

Think Hughes will make a lot of test runs but he is always going to look horrible when he is playing badly.

It's not a green top by any measure, and the ball has hardly swung at all. Don't see the problem with batting at all given batting last at Sydney means a lot of spin and some uneven bounce.

Well it ain't a belter. Certainly not an automatic bat first pitch. With the other conditions it's surely a day for bowling.
No it's not that bloody hard. Three of the top four got 30 plus. Yeah they grafted for it but it's nothing like as difficult a deck as Melbourne day one or Sydney last year vs Pakistan.

Only been watching since 3am our time, but it looks a good pitch. There's enough in it to keep the bowlers interested, but looks like a pitch where if you grit it out and get yourself in that you should be able to make good runs on it.

I think you don't follow Aussie cricket that closely, because its pretty much an open secret that, Australia likes to bat first in all formats of the game regardless of the conditions.

I think the wicket favours the bowlers, just don't think the English bowlers have been particularly good today (bar Tremlett's early spells). Garbage shots is why we are 4 down.

Disagree tbh. Yes it needs a bit of graft but you do not want to bat last here.
Hmm what's the forecast? Can't see it changing much with relatively cool and wet days. Though the way the series has gone for Australia the sun will come out for England to bat and deteriorate in time for Swann to do his stuff.
