*Official* Fifth Test at the SCG

what happens if both Khawaja and clarke score tons..will you still pick ponting for the next test and if so drop whom ?

just a silly thought i know there is no test coming any time soon for australia
We don't have a decent number 6, so the order would just be shuffled around. If need be Khawaja would be left out, still plenty of cricket ahead of him.

Yeah, I'd drop Smith if that happened, or Beer. I think Watson-Katich-Khawaja-Ponting-Clarke-Hussey is Australia's best possible top six at the moment. Ponting's on borrowed time though really.

Looking at the squad it would seem Khawaja is straight in at 3 and it is a straight fight between Beer and Bollinger for the Harris place.

Are we going to throw Khawaja straight into the #3 position? Might as well I suppose.
Yep. And this line up now has three young players around the 20-22 mark in the top six. Whether they are the right ones, who knows, buy it will be interesting to see how the "give the kids a go" brigade react if they fail.

Let them develop.

Tough luck on Ponting if this is his last series but that is sport for you.

It will be interesting to see how Khawaja goes, i presume he will bat at 3.

As for the bowling, it has all been tried and all failed at various stages so no reason to think they can turn it round now.
We said that before Perth, so who knows which version of Johnson will turn up? Plus if Sydney is the sort of green-top that's been forecast, then Hilfenhaus could be a much bigger threat this time around. afaics there's no guarantee that Siddle will have to be a one-man band again.

As for the Aus batting, Khawaja can hardly make less runs than Ponting and Clarke might be galvanised by the armband.

Hopefully that's put the mockers on the buggers.

number 6 is the only position open at the moment, I don't know what it will take for Ponting to lose his place, and after seeing Hussey come back from a trot I'm not too keen to push the point. But Number six. Who really deserves our number 6, or at least 1-6 batting position, that isn't "too young". I've only started watching cricket seriously in the last 5 years, I can't think of any Australian batsman besides Clarke & Hughes that have debuted young (24 of less) in that period.

One of you smarter ones fill me with stories of young debut success. People who are possible worth 1-3 years of success, Rogers, Dussey & USED to be Jaques before he hurt his back like a pounce. Should one of those get a call up for the short term? to give people more time to develop? My personal instinct is to go with Khawaja, I mean, Ponting averaged under 40 after 30 tests. I think we give up on players too quickly (HUGHES)

Hughes WILL score a century next test, I thought that this last test, but Shane 'I run out people' Watson went and ran him out so next test he'll do it.

Would actually rather Beer didn't play myself - with the match in Sydney though I reckon they'll play him.
It is madness he is even in the squad. They made a huge mistake dumping Hauritz who is the best of a bad lot and at least has the experience of international cricket.

A specialist spinner should play in Sydney, i just have a gut feeling Smith will be used as sole spinner.

Shades of mid-1980s when guys like Boon, Steve Waugh and Jones were initially struggling to find their feet at test match level. I'd be astonished if there wasn't the talent somewhere in the Aus FC system. I just don't know who'll be the Border figure to guide them through the next few years.

have no doubt punter can keep making runs. england just bowled beautifully to him and had every player under a load of pressure. knew people would bag him during the series. but now, people are realizing "who the '**** else do we have?"

he'd be fine at 4 5 or 6.

I wish they'd go temporarily insane and make Peter Siddle captain. Would be so awesome. He's like Allan Border except even angrier and bowls at 90mph.
