This is pretty much what they've been doing for the past two years. Trying every spinner in the country in the hope they can unearth another Warne. Australia needs to find someone who is a big turner of the ball and say "you have a run of 10 Tests, be attacking, try to have fun with it".

There are plenty of decent batting all rounders who can bowl darts and try to hold down an end.

Maybe Warne was a once in a hundred years leggie. Like Murali was a once in a hundred years offie.

Perhaps most mere mortal spinners can only average 30-35 in today's age of batting dominance.

Swanneh averages 27 tbf. Could well struggle to sustain that but at least we know it's possible.

It took Warne 9 Tests to get his bowling average below 40, and it wasn't until his first Ashes Test that his average dropped below 30.

The freakish thing was his economy rate being between 2.2 and 2.6 for most of his career and a strike rate of 57-65 which is great for a leggie. So he was an accurate, big turner of the ball.
