An error on an error, IMHO. My guess is after looking at Beer in the nets the selectors' collective arse went.

95% sure he'll bat #9. Averages nearly 20 from memory. Def in the "useful tailender" rather than lower order batsman category tho.

No Beer... what was the point of all that, then? Love them going in with no spinner, always a risky move.

Talking of... not like Strauss to be so risky.

What a joke... selectors can't make a decent decision in regards to a spinner, so they end up having to boycott him and are forced to work with a more limited squad. Don't like the idea of 4 quicks (not including Watson) if we are batting first either. Probably won't be much assistance for the quicks when england bat, and in their 2nd innings (if they have one ) we won't even have a specialist spinner to take advantage of a deteriorating pitch...

Everything now depends on this first innings.

Look, everyone has been saying to pick your four best bowlers... If they think these are their best bowlers, good on them.
Swann would have been bowling last regardless.

I would. Though it might be somewhat pessimistic of her.

We have one, it's debateable as to whether he would do a worse job than Beer too.

Yeah true.

Just saw Steve Waugh in an ad. Of all high profile ex-players, he's been by far the least prominent in years. Interesting character. You'd think if he wanted to he'd get a tv or radio gig at the drop of a hat.

Ah well, just have to have them 4 down by lunch to make it a worthwhile decision to bowl.

Shouldn't be too difficult to get amongst them though.

Tremlett or Finn to take the new ball with Jimmy? I'd go Tremlett.

Backing Australia here. They've got the experience and nous to bat through a couple of sessions, only losing 1 or 2 maybe. Could be a Nasser Hussain Gabba moment for Straussy here.

Also, England to waste a review on a 30/70 call in the first 5 overs, I reckon.
