Yes, it was a working day; yes the pitch was flat; yes people won't have bought tickets in advance. I realise all that. But blimey, even allowing for all those factors it was a desperately poor turn-out. It's not as though the result was a foregone conclusion either - England effectively 88-1, and a few quick wickets could have really opened up an interesting last day.

Pasag, is Boxing Day at the MCG looking like a sell-out? That's pretty good news.

Edit: Sorry, mate, I do appreciate it's less good news for people hoping for tickets and who now can't get them...

Yeah, can't get tickets. Won't be 100,000 people obv, but might come close to the 89,000 from the last Ashes if the contest is still alive.

I'll get them somehow, from a member or worst case scenario, off one of the vultures on ebay.

How come you can't get tickets if it's not yet sold out?

Well there are MCC member tickets and AFL member tickets then there are general public tickets which aren't available anymore, though there might be some more released later in the week so fingers crossed.

btw 118,000 over the five days at the Gabba which is the second most ever for a Test at the venue, apparently.

TBF, not many of our venues sell 5th day tix and I've seen plenty of meandering games with a low-ish crowd in England. Not an Ashes Test or to the extent of Monday, but still.

People aren't going to chuck a sickie at this stage of the year, need to save it up for the day after the Christmas parties.

^^^ was considering one myself for Monday

It should be chaos in Adelaide tomorrow night. The train and tram drivers are going on strike from 5-9pm, oh well, good news for the local pubs and cabs.

Sucks if you're a cricket fan in the Western and Southern suburbs then. Not like a work stoppage on rail and tram services affects everyone

It's such a shame such a test series is not getting crowds. Cricke Australia is killing cricket as we know it.

Well, if the second highest attendance ever for a Test match at the venue is "killing cricket as we know it" then long may it continue.

And a bit of googling tells me that the first 3 days in Perth sold out as long ago as July.

Still no excuse for the crim locals not turning out for their team on Day 5 at the Gabba though

*gets coat and heads for the "Under the Lid" thread*
