So you bowl one ball in an over, it gets hit for four, then you completely change the field? Not exactly showing great confidence in your bowler there.
It wasn't the world's best shot either, I'd be perfectly happy to see him play another one like it.

Without wanting to go over ground obviously discussed (though I have missed it)-- Why is a 28 yr old specialist bowler with a FC average of 50 selected?

What makes someone think-- This kid averages 50 in FC but he is worth a shot?

Well batted Cook. Quality stuff.

yeh pietersens just as likely to get out with a tempting field as he is to hit it for 4. poor captaincy once again.

Played Cooky, amazing stuff.

Well played Cooky! Has used the cut so well that it is appropriate that was what got his well deserved hundred.

ffs here we go, hes had 2 great games and they're talking about him topping the runs scored by an English batsmen.

When his form drops they'll be asking questions again.

Tbf, even if Cook doesn't make another hundred in the series, it'll take a top effort for one of the other English batsman to overtake him.

Based on his one day performances, apparently. Does seem a bit of an odd selection, but the SLA track record of Pietersen may have convinced them he was worth a shot.

Can't see Australia even drawing this now tbh. England will bat for all of tommorow, and then Australia will have to bat for 2 days on a wearing pitch, where Swann will likely clean up.

Oh maybe that's what they were talking about? I thought they were saying he could end up topping Gooch as the top run getter over a career.

No idea. Just a case of a bowler doing well in OD Cricket and the selectors thinking he'll be able to do the same thing in the longer format.

Darren Lehmann used to look more likely to take Test wickets than Xavier does.

Despite a career body of work that would suggest different. I think it is a wonderful selection :)
