Nicholas on the money about that ball, really wasn't a great ball; short ball down legside.

Didn't realise that O'Keefe has only 9 FC games to his name. Been around a long time; all the more reason why his FC average should be viewed with some suspicion; especially with the effect of 7/30 on a ridiculous burner.

Anyone think smith will pull out runs until everyone figures out his awkward technique then he's done?

Think that the analogy that Slater made with Graeme Smith is a good one, it's not that he doesn't have a tight technique - he's pretty solid in defence, IMO - it's just that its based around leg side scoring, aside from the cut shot.

Bresnan bowling too short recently, surprised he even got another over.

Smithy

I see him as a bit of an SWaugh type, early in his Test career for Australia. Make a few runs batting down the list, field well, and take a couple of wickets here and there. Definitely has a lot of upside to his game.

He did seem to get a fair few balls going towards on the onside when it looks like it should have gone to the offside. But that never led to a wicket taking chance and his defence as mentioned looks solid. Well done on the 50, well deserved and hes taking the attack back to the English.

I think Steve Smith' technique is a bit of a mixture of G.Smith and Pietersen's style of batting, and eventhough it might look a bit akward but he still does most basics well, so can't see him having too many technique related issues in his career.
Its only his shot-selection that has let him down every now and then.

Smith might look ugly but iirc he's only played and missed once this innings and has generally been very solid

SO do you guys think he has the technique to bat top 6 in tests without having to change too much?

Smith playing a top innings. He doesn't have a tight technique, but he does score runs.
I have been really impressed with his technique this innings actually, especially considering the ball has been doing a bit. Looks a lot more sound than it usually does...

Smith scoring runs here. Bolter for the first test?

Knowing Australia they'll pick him as a ****ing bowler again.

I believe so, this is not the first time he has rescued a team when batting down the order. Actually would have had him in there over North during the NZ tour and now having a very good look at his technique I am even more for that.

More worried about him vs Swann that the quicks tbh
Yeah, has seemed very reliant on the sweep shot so far against Monty, and he hasn't been playing it all that well, one or two iffy moments with it. Other than that it's been a great knock though, really enjoying it.

Yep, they'll probably bat him behind the keeper at 7 or 8 like they did with Watson

Clueless pricks they are

I don't mind how smiths technique is myself i'm just worried it has weaknesses people haven't exposed yet. Everytime i see him bought up as replacing North at 6 though i seem to see arguments that his technique wasn't up to scratch. O'keefe's batting actually looks pretty good here too especially if he can keep his bowling average under 30
