We might have had a thread on this already, but now the hour is nigh, so time to go on the record again.

5-0 Australia
Top runscorer - Shane Watson, just from Ricky Ponting. Trott for the Poms.
Top wicket taker - Mitchell Johnson. Swann for the Poms.
Dumpings - Marcus North
Debutant/Returning players - Pete Siddle (due to injury, not dropping).
Surprise Packet - If I knew that, it wouldn't be a surprise. Alright, um, Swampy Marsh to make a surprise return as Australia's front line spinner.

Not quite sure of my predictions yet, but what I would want to see is:

5-0
Top scorer Clarke with a bucket of buckets
Top wicket taker Mitch, Swann the only good bowler for England (because he's generally awesome)
North to GAGF
Hussey to retire gracefully once the series is sealed
Smith to be brilliant
KP to show one flash of brilliance then be dismal
A close match on the order of Mohali/Edgbaston that we actually ****ing win

four_or_six

Cricketer Of The Year
4-0 England (one match to be washed out)
Top runscorer - Alistair Cook (Watto for Aussies)
Top wicket taker - James Anderson (Watto for Aussies).
Dumpings - Mid-series: North, Hussey, Hauritz. End-series: Ponting.
Debutant/Returning players - Xavier Doherty
Surprise Packet - Mark Nicholas will win an award for his commentary, and will be knighted in the Xmas honours list in 2011.

More seriously though,

2-1 our way (Adelaide to be a draw), with wins at the Gabba and SCG
Pupter to top score. Strauss for England.
Mitch to relish the faster, bouncier wickets and get some of his own back
Hilfenhaus to be extremely solid and finally get a 5-wicket ****ing haul. Top wicket taker in the series
Dougeh to provide excellent support, similar end results to Mitch but more consistent
Broad to do the same on one occasion, but only one (being Broad)
Anderson to be fairly similar to Hoggard last time around - good but hardly destructive bowling. Has a bit of a problem with Watson, Pupter driving him with gay abandon.
Swann to be very good but not stellar by the fact that Pupter play off-spin at home just fine, thanks. Will have basically everyone else in all sorts of bother at various stages though.
(if you hadn't guessed). The top four will continue to carry our batting line-up. Watson and Katich will continue to make starts but frustratingly get out just as we start to look like we're in a strong position, forcing Pupter to go into rebuild mode (again). Should they both fail, collapse on the majority of occasions.
Collapses after the loss lead to North to get the axe, for Khawaja or Smith, depending on whether Hauritz has managed to survive (oh yeah, he'll perform adequately). Haddin should be nervous too.
The England batting lineup to look bizarrely similar, with the exception that we discover just how slowly Trott can score. This leads to one or two innings of supremity from KP in response, but mostly just brainsnaps. Strauss will be consistent... in getting 30-40's and getting out. The rest of the middle and top order will fire independently but there will be a fair share of collapses.
The series is decided when Ponting wins the SCG toss and bats.

(yeah, I got bored with saying "Ponting or Clarke")

2 wins a piece, Melbourne to be washed out.

Strauss to be England's best batsman, and pretty much this is why I see Australia not retaining the Ashes at this stage. He's the key player, if he has a good series it will be super tough to get the Ashes back.

robinjr

School Boy/Girl Captain

Shane watson with over 0.6k runs.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Interesting to see no one as yet predicting against their team to win.

Result: 3-1 Australia
Runs: Ponting and Strauss
Wickets: Hilfenhaus and Broad
Dumpings: North and possibly Hauritz
Returns/debuts: Usman Khawaja, Phil Hughes, Steve Smith
Surprises: Watson to get injured by the third Test, after which Hughes will gun it. Also, one hattrick will be taken (worth a shot).

My predictions:

- I reckon Swann will have an average series overall wise, but he will pick up a bag of wickets at certain times, hopefully it all comes in vain, but I doubt we would get on top of him forever.

- Punter will get at-least 3 tons this series and it will be the start of another purple patch for him.

- Watson will look great all series, but won't have the scores to back it up with.

- Katich will score at-least 2 tons this series, but they will all come in the 1st innings and he will average about 40.

- Hussey will continue to be dire, however he will produce at least 1 match winning knock.

- Hauritz (if he plays) will be **** (if the series against SA is anything to go by):@

- North will fail for the first 2 Tests and will be dropped (but will return just after as his replacement will get injured in their 1st match)

- Clarke will play the patience game outside off-stump, get sucked in a few times but will also get many 70s/80s.

- Hilfenhaus and Johnson will get the most wickets this series.

- Bollinger will bowl with a lot of heart but his length will be inconsistent and will have an average series.

- KP will play at-least a couple of innings of note, but will struggle getting out in the strangest of ways.

- Collingwood will make 1 big hundred, but will fail rest of series, consequently being called Hilfy's bunny.

- Strauss will feast on our short and wide bowling on many occasions and will have a good series, but still won't play any significant innings (kinda like Watson).

- Cook will fail at the start of the series but will get a 100 later on and show his mental toughness, will still have an average series though.

- Finn will bowl terribly and the crowd will treat him like Harmison of 06/07. He will still pick up some wickets though, but will mostly be due to stupid batting mistakes.

- Broad will be the leader of attack and will bowl pretty decently and economically. However he will end up close to the least wicket of the series and will pose no threat.

- Anderson (if he plays) will enjoy some of the green wickets CA will produce and will be tough to handle with the new ball on those green pitches. Which will in the end justify him for the other Test matches with not so green wickets, where he will get carted

- Prior will be a dud.

- Haddin/Paine will also be duds, however they will prove to be good pinch hitters when Aus has a decent total.

Time to save this quote for later and see how many humble pies I will eat after we regain the Ashes :)

School Boy/Girl Cricketer
Scoreline: 0-0 (every match will most likely end up with 1 wicket needed for Australia, who are unable to get out Monty) (with Colly at the other end)
Top Runscorers: Clarke to return to form, Monty accumulates enough runs whilst blocking out the last day to edge past Collingwood's solid total of 100 runs taking 2345342 balls throughout series
Top Wicket Takers: Johnson to stop his poor run against England, Monty to come in for Swann (who could only pick up the one 10 wicket match haul during the 3 warm up games) for the first test and quite frankly never look back
Dumpings: Siddle for Hauritz, the entire England team except Monty
Debutant/Returning Players: thus allowing the previously unvailable Romsford U11 Cobras reserve team to return to the set up, resulting in an improved allround performance
Surprise Package: North to have a decent series, Sir Monty to receive knighthood for retaining the urn single-handedly (literally, when his right-hand is amputated after a freak Pedalo incident) and beating the aussies in their own backyard for the first time since Gatting!
