Last time we took 16 which included 2 wicketkeepers and 5 seamers in addition to Flintoff. But I guess we were planning to play 5 bowlers all the time. So Davies may go and they might think with him (who has been opening for Surrey this year with some effect) and Trott/Bell around they can cover the openers, at least until a replacement can come out if they wanted one. They would also, rightly or wrongly, think of Wright as a semi viable option to replace a batsmen batting at 7 with Prior at 6.

Two keepers were taken last time because the position wasn't settled, though, not as backup as such.

Well tbh we could do a lot worse than Davies for a second reserve batsman.

Maybe an opener as well?
I'd go with that but not an extra opener i'd pick another paceman,if Onions is fit enough it should be him but if not then i guess Bresnan will go.

According to TMS the A team/development squad will be based in Perth like last time. So a reserve opener can be stationed there, and potentially a wicket keeper too, as well as extra bowling backup. Though I think after last summer with Prior and Haddin they may well have the keeper with the main squad.

Bell in for Morgan for the first XI then

2 of Bresnan/Shazad/Sidebottom

Probably Luke Wright

Wouldn't think we would take a spare opener or wicketkeeper, would just call them up if we get an injury. Not my choices, but what I think they will go with
Why are we still talking about Sidebottom? We have at least 4 options better than him (Onions, Shazad, Bresnan, Finn) when he is fully fit, considering hes barely even playing at that level on a regular basis there are probably 15-20 better bowling options.

I'm worried about the lack of competitive cricket we'll get this winter ahead of India's visit next year...

Don't suppose we'll be playing our first XI this winter anyway

Do people think Finn has a good chance of making the starting XI come November? Looking likely at the minute. Not sure how he'll go over there.

Yes, I do & me neither. His height and easy action advantages tho, so some grounds for cautious optimism at least.

If they pick him for tests in England for which he's not especially well-suited they'll definitely have him in the side on fast, bouncy Australian tracks.

Finn is either going to do an Ishant Sharma/Roach in Australia or he is going to be dead meat.

Not sure who else would be? I was trying to think who the five quicks were going to be... Jimmy, Broad, Finn... Shazhad and Bresnan maybe? I wish Sidebottom or someone experienced could go in with Shazhad.
