Australia report bookie approach to ICC

Quote:
The Australian team management has filed a report with the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit after a player was approached by a man suspected of links to illegal bookmaking. Cricinfo has learned the approach was made in the bar of the team's London hotel, the Royal Kensington Garden, following Australia's Ashes defeat at Lord's in July.

Sad to see it happening, but at least the player involved did the right thing.

I think there's been some confusion here, with one of the youngsters reporting the "person suspected of being associated with a bookie", when all that happened was Warnie popping in to say g'day to the fellas at practice.

Warney hassling the team then?

Apparently Australia was approached twice, once during the ICC Twenty20 world cup and once after the Lord's test.

Oh, and Australian players suspect that bookies were involved in the recent IPL. Not match fixing as that implies the result is fixed but rather individuals paid to bat/bowl poorly without the knowledge of their team mates.

No surprise that betting and bookies are getting involved with the game again. It was an enternity ago that we had the scandals. You cant expect the people at the ICC to have that long a memory?

The IPL's nothing to do with the ICC, it's a BCCI-run competition. TBH, I can't help but imagine that a large majority of those with interests in the IPL won't really be all that bothered about any fixes, all they'll care about is whether they get their own return.

In all honesty, even I'd struggle to be particularly bothered. The only danger, AFAIC, would be the slippery-slope effect.
