An excerpt was in The Age in Australia, and it was horrific.
simon "how many times can i mention the 2005 ashes in this piece" barnes.
The John Woodcock remark was just an over reaction to an article I read recently where he rated Flintoff at Lords with Holding at the Oval in '76, and Willis at Headingley in '81.
p.s. Malcolm Conn should indeed be added to the list.
Simon Barnes isn't really comparable to Cardus as they're just different in so many ways it's hard to know where to start. Of writers in the last 30-40 years, he's by-and-large the best, IMO. Yes, to date, definately better than Atherton, though he is still relatively speaking only starting-out.
And if you base someone not being allowed to write on one over-the-top appraisal you'd ban just about everyone from writing, ever.
Rebecca Wilson should be added to the list. Just admit it, you have NFI. I guess it can't take much to be a sports journalist in Australia.
Nah, you just need your brother to be a reputable journalist, and then you can ride on the coat-tails.
Steen = everything white must be racist. one of his gems went something like
"There was no street parade for the West Indies in 1979/80 as there was in 1960/61 because they won the former and lost the latter"
It seems those Racist Australian's were only happy to have a parade if the WI lost and knew their place but not when they won.
One may ask where were the parades in 1968/69 and 1975/76 when Australia won?
Mr Steen would it have something to do with the great cricket played in 1960/61?
You know it makes sense.
