I thought Hammond was "rested" or "injured" in 46-47, when in fact he was dropped or dropped out himself as he was going so poorly.
Mike Denness certainly did in 1974/75 - just a shame he accepted the offer to captain ITFP as he was never a good enough batsman to play Test cricket.

What's more, the papers who had been going on about how he should drop himself cos he was so obviously not good enough then accused him of cowardice and taking the easy way out after he did. A bit like Ponting and his win-or-play-fair condondrum, some writers try to have it both ways.
