I know it is just a prediction team, but I really can't make a calculated guess as to who would be keeper. I thought Ambrose is good enough with the gloves, but the batting is the problem now.

Replace Symonds with Watson and that's the team id like to see. Don't see them playing no real spinner though.

Reckon we may see a team like this for the Ashes:

    Hayden
    Hussey
    Ponting
    Clarke
    Symonds
    Watson
    Haddin
    Noffers
    Lee
    Clark
    Bollinger/ Random spinner.

There's surely no way Jaques is going to be poor enough in the next however-many-it-is-this-winter Tests to lose his place?

Says in the paper that KP fancies Fred at 6 (link) & I suspect Moores is going to be his bitch, so I think it'll be something like this:

    Strauss
    Cook
    Bell
    Pietersen*
    Collingwood
    Flintoff
    Prior+
    Broad
    Harmison
    Jones
    Panesar

The other possibility I could see is Anderson or Sidebottom in for Monty, with Patel in for Bell as our spinning option. I think Monty's lack of progress has seen his card being marked of late.

Fred @ 6 means we need a genuine test quality 8, which is probablt Broad with a very slight chance for Adil Rashid, which again means no Monty.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."

    Cook
    Key
    Bell
    Pietersen*
    Collingwood
    Prior+
    Flintoff
    Sidebottom
    Anderson
    Harmison
    Panesar

Not sure that Key will be in, but think Strauss will be dropped between now and the Ashes and Key is just my best guess as to who would be next in line for an openers spot. I think Prior will be the keeper on the West Indies tour and do well enough to keep his place for the summer Tests, especially since I reckon England will be desperate to find a wickie to bat a six.

    Hayden
    Jaques
    Ponting*
    Hussey
    Clarke
    Watson
    Haddin+
    Noffke
    Lee
    Clark
    Tait

I rate Tait higher than Bollinger, Johnson and the raft of spinners. He has said he is now ready to play international cricket again and if he has a good Aussie summer with the ball I think he'll be a more attractive pick than any of the other options for that 4th bowler spot.

Fitness pending obviously, but it looks as if Jaques, Symonds & Watson will be fighting for two places between them. And, despite being a big scoring batsman, Jaques cannot match the other two for all-round abilities.. However if Australia are confident their four main bowlers can do the job Jaques should sneak in the XI...

What happened to Simon Katich? Is he not only after scoring 2 centuries in 3 tests?
