IMO the selection panel got it right. Clark for the test, Punter for the series

I like how you neglected to quote the part where I said Clark WAS my MOS, and that Warney was the dark horse for a late charge.

Should have been Clarke because Ponting faded away near the end of the series.

Clark because he solved Australia's main problem - the fourth bowler (if someone had bowled like him in 2005 Australia would have retained the Ashes here instead of regaining them)

People going on about what a genius Ponting has been in this series, should just take a step back, for two reasons.

i), He played against an apalling bowling line-up, his first two big tons cames against Giles (****), Harmison (****), Flintoff (unfit), Anderson (****) and Hoggard (the only decent bowler), so not really as amazing as it might first seem. He cashed in against a very, very ordinary line-up.

ii) Inconsistency. He scored a bulk of his runs (around a large %) in the first two tests, and failed after that. He average 35 in the last 3 tests, and scored a small amount of runs.

.....

Where did anyone in this thread say anything about the genius of Ponting? Nearly everyone is advocating Stuart Clark for man of the series. Don't know what you're on about tbh.

This and any other thread, it doesn't matter. The amount of people that have said he is one of the greatest batsmen of all time is staggering.

I agree that Clark outperformed Ponting as a player.

As for Ponting's captaincy giving him the edge, I think if this Series (and comparing it to 2005) proved anything it was that a bowling attack does maketh or breaketh a Captain.

Compare England's bowling in this Series to 2005, and Clark's to Gillespie's; and McGath's availability etc.

Ponting due to the fact he lead Australia to a 5-0 victory.
