Interview with Ricky Ponting

Chatting with the Australian Captain

Hi Ricky, welcome to the studio.

G'day

Now, as our viewers may know, you were injured in the 3rd Test of the Ashes, a broken arm, and you haven't played competitive cricket since, are you fit again.

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Gilly, who did a marvellous job of securing the Ashes and then going unbeaten through the VB Series. I'm fit again now, I've been putting in some time in the nets recently.

Your team has had a good 12 months, and you've unearthed some good talents, in particular, Phil Jaques and Brad Hogg, how far do you think these kids could go?

Phil had an amazing start in the Adidas ODI Series [vs Pakistan], averaging 73, and followed it up with a solid, if not spectacular VB Series. He also forced himself into the Test team for the Ashes, so this was a huge year for him, let's hope he can have a long and fruitful career at the top level.
I don't think that we "discovered" Hoggy this year, more like improved him, and got him into a regular Test as well as ODI player, 38 Test wickets in 8 matches this year, along with 33 wickets at 15.82 this year in ODI's. He also picked up a century in both forms of the game, so he's had a monster of a year.

What are your hopes for this world Cup?

We've won the last 2 ICC World Cups, and been to the final of the last 3, so I think that we should be able to get to the final of this, and possibly win it. The boys in the training squad are really ready for this big Trophy.

Thank you for your time, Ricky.
