Our system at the moment is purely based on rote learning. Doing the HSC right now, it's all about learning syllabus dot points and spouting textbook definitions. Even English, which they claim is supposed to boost critical thinking skills, has deteriorated into 'memorise an essay with a trillion techniques and hope it matches the question'.
